For those that had an EPI

How long did it take for the back pain to go away?

I had a very difficult labor and bruised and broke my tail bone and the drs say that is all healed, but I still have lingering pain in the spot where they gave me the EPI? I'm 10 weeks pp and really thought it would be gone by now.

I just can't believe that with everything that happened that the worst pain I still have could just be from the EPI.

Re: For those that had an EPI

Yeah i did mention it to the dr and to my ortho dr, they both said it could be residual effects from the EPI not being placed correctly or healing. But i thought it should be gone by now.

Re: For those that had an EPI

I had bruising soreness for several weeks like you. I had mentioned it to the nurse in the hospital and she took a look at my back. I had several needle pricks in my back around the epi site in order to numb the area. That is what was causing my discomfort.

But I do know the pain you are describing about the epi site specifically, it did take a while, around 2 months for that soreness to go away.

Re: For those that had an EPI

I was only sore for a few days. Is there a way to contact the anesthesiologist?

Go to your ob. Show him or her exactly the spot where you have pain.

Pain at the epidural site is caused only by a bit of bruising around tissue and skin. It should last a week at most. It gets better with a warm compress.

You can have pain from placement of epidural that runs down to leg etc that can last longer... But doesn't sound like you are having that.

Your ob will be able to contact your anesthesiologist if the pain location is really from the epidural.

Re: For those that had an EPI

Thanks everyone, yes my ob and anestheologist have confirmed pain is from epi location. They say to give it time. This is my 4th epi and ive never had this before, hoping it goes away soon.
