CIO for naps

I did CIO for DS for bed time and it worked like a charm. He STTN, goes down without a fight, it's great. However, naps are a different story. After I did CIO for bedtime, he had more separation anxiety for naps and wouldn't let me put him in the crib. So between the holidays, his teething and then being sick, we've been spoiling him with naptime and he hasn't been napping in his crib.

I put off doing CIO for naptime because he's in daycare and they still rock him to sleep in a swing/bouncer and I figured it wouldn't stick. Well, now daycare is going to start trying to get him to nap in his crib there too. So I'm ready to CIO for naptime but I have some questions.

How long do you let them CIO for naptime? DS is 9m. He fights naps as it is so I worry that he could go on a lonnnnng time. Should I have some sort of nap routine? I was just kind of putting him in the crib abruptly and now I'm thinking that may have been a mistake. Is it possible to get this done over a 3 day weekend? Any advice is very much appreciated! Thanks!

CIO for naps

DD is 7 months and currently on a 3 hour wake/eating schedule which works out great...for now. Shes up at 6 and by 9 ready for a bottle and a nap so I feed her the bottle while rocking her and she goes off, I place her in her crib and she naps anywhere from 1-2 hours.

The afternoon nap is the hard one bc her eating doesnt coinside with sleep time. I put her down this past weekend for the first time bc she was fighting it so, I did the 3,5,7, 10 method for an hour and she finally went down and slept for an hour

We have naps and bedtime down pat but the sttn is another story! I started DD in the crib early so that probably helped. Our nap routine is pretty simple but it works. She usually starts to fuss when I bring her into her room which she only does when she's tired. I turn on the white noise machine and rock her while I sing to her. Not long, just two round of Twinkle Twinkle or something to give her a cuddle. Then I turn on the FP Soothing Seahorse in her crib and lay her down. I tell her I love her and I'm out of there. She sometimes cries a tiny bit still but she settles down quickly as long as she's not overtired.

I can't comment on whether or not to let him CIO because thus far, I haven't had to do that. As for a nap routine, yes this is crucial!! Since DS sleeps in his sleep sack at night, I put him in one for each nap... As soon as he goes in it, he knows it's bed time. Then I turn off the lights, read him a story, and off to bed. Definitely start to establish a nap routine - I think it is pretty much just as important as a bed time routine. I wasn't doing them in the beginning and he was not napping well at all. Once I started, it has made an enormous difference. Keep in mind it should be very similar to his bed time routine, only shorter. Chat Icon HTH!!!

CIO for naps

DS is One today :) and as of yet, we (I) spoil him as far as sleeping and naps. I only put him down for naps when he wants to, and for bedtime he has to fall asleep on one of us. That being said, he naps once or twice a day for a total of 2hrs. He STTN most nights, when he doesnt and I'm delirious from lack of sleep, then and only then do I let him CIO (earplugs help).

ETA: I do believe in routines, but I havent followed my own advice. He started daycare today and they had a hard time getting him to nap (my fault.) Lucky for me though, I now get to bathe him after dinner and he fell asleep before 8pm.: Chat Icon:
