Help... Severe diaper rash?? ******update******
DD is four months, and hasn't had a diaper rash. As of last night, she started getting like big pimple like bumps. Two of them look puss filled. Another one looks like a blister. Now it seems every diaper change it's getting ten times worse with many little bumps all around. I've been using desitin, but what else should I be doing? Does this sound like just a severe diaper rash or something else??
***update****
This morning she woke up with red bumps all over her body! Every time I turned around I saw another one! Anyway, I called the dr ASAP, and they diagnosed her with some kind of staph infection that spreads through touch. Adults won't really get it bc our immune systems can fight it. The dr said it was concentrated to the diaper area bc air doesn't really hit there. Also said that back in the day when everyone used cloth diapers, he never saw this. (One more reason my quest for cloth diapers might start again )
Thanks for all ur help!!

Re: Help... Severe diaper rash??
we fortunately havent had many problems with diaper rash, but ive heard triple paste works wonders. i also would maybe call the dr just to make sure it's not something else. puss-filled sounds a little alarming good luck!

Re: Help... Severe diaper rash??
Sounds like what my older dd had in the fall. She needed a prescription from the ped. But for regular rashes I love Desitin max in the purple box

Instead of using wipes wash her butt. The wipes could be irritating her. Also if you can let her air dry that would be good. You might want to call the ped too since she has puss.

Re: Help... Severe diaper rash??
we have found that But Paste works better on the girls then triple paste or dessitin. I was always a desitin believer, until but paste made the rash go away and didn't make them scream going on.

Help... Severe diaper rash??
Blister and puss usually is a yeast rash. Stop using wipes, use a clean baby wash cloth instead. Let dry completely and leave diaper off for as much as you can (so much easier to do with a girl then a boy!!) Call your Dr tomorrow if they have hours, if not call first thing Monday morning. Since it is her first one you want to be sure it is a fungal/yeast rash but once you know what they are you can buy Lotrimin cream (for jock itch. I usually look for the generic) and put that on at least 3x a day with some A&D ointment on top. Keep using the cream for a few days after all the blisters and redness go away so the fungus is completely gone. Also, personally I would avoid other creams and lotions, they usually made things worse with ds because they would hold the moisture in and harbor the fungus more.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone, I stopped using the wipes and washed with a washcloth. I also let it dry out as much as possible. I will call the dr asap.

Help... Severe diaper rash??
Poor baby! Desitin Max has the highest concentration of zinc. What my ped recommended and has worked without fail for me was to apply a thick layer of Desitin and then cover with a layer of Aquaphor. When changing DD's diaper, don't wipe/wash off the old layer of the Desitin/Aquaphor mix, just what you need to (except if a poopy diaper, obviously) and just reapply the mix again.

My ped also recommended a layer of neosporin under the diaper cream. Works wonders. We also had the best luck with triple paste.

Re: Help... Severe diaper rash??
Sounds like yeast, my DD had similar spots and the Doctor gave her nystatin. I would see a doctor and let them prescribe what is best.

I agree, sounds like yeast! DO NOT USE CORNSTARCH, it will feed the yeast!!! Call for a precription of nystatin and air out between diaper changes. Also, try and change diaper every hour, they thrive in moisture.
