Formula Questions
What kind of water do you use with powdered formula? Bottles, boiled, filtered tap...?
Do you mix one bottle at a time (on demand) or make a batch in advance?
I am planning to start supplementing (1-2 bottles per day) with formula next week, so not sure I will go through a 2lb container in 30 days. Do you think it will last past that point? The container says discard after 30 days...
If DC does not finish a bottle of powdered formula from a bottle, do you throw it away after 1 hour?
Any formula feeding tips are appreciated....TIA!

Maybe start with a smaller can and see how long it lasts you. After a certain point the formula gets chunky so I wouldn't use it more than 30 days after you open it.
I discard usually after an hour if DS has drank from the bottle. If he hasn't, I will discard after 2 hrs. I'm pretty anal about it since my first DS had major stomach issues.

Re: Formula Questions
We used room temperature bottled water. I know many people like to use a Brita pitcher instead. Either is fine. We made one bottle at a time. If dc doesn't finish the bottle in the hour then you should toss it.

Formula Questions
I use bottled room temp water and summer we used bottled frigerated water.
I make them on demand.
No I do not discard after an hour but DS is 1 yo and I did discard at first. I probably would not throw out a canister of formula after 30 days. Unless it wasn't stored properly.

I use that nursery water, at room temp. If I don't have it, I'll use a bottled water. I mix bottles on demand. I have found that my DD doesn't respond well to cold bottles warmed. I pretty much go 1 1/2 hours if she doesn't finish, which is rare. I keep the can of formula as long as it takes to go through, probably about two weeks to a month.

Formula Questions
I boil a big pot of water, let it cool, and then store it in a big pitcher at room temp. When I'm ready to use it I pour it into the bottle and mix it with the powder. I also discard the formula if he hasn't drank it in an hour.

Tap water. We have a Pur filter attached to it because we like the way it tastes better, so we used that for her too, but when we were out we had no problem using plain old tap water.

Re: Formula Questions
Our ped recommends Brittany and says not to use bottled. Idk why. Maybe bpa? We used to fill a bunch of bottles and measure out powder in the portioner and mix each bottle

Formula Questions
i use room temperature brita water. Sometimes, i use the bottle warmer anyhow to warm it a bit.
during the day, i make the bottles on demand. Before bed, i make 2-3 bottles and throw them in the fridge so i can just heat them and feed DS without measuring.
If, for some reason, i don't use the pre-made bottles, i toss them after 24 hours of being in the fridge.
If DS started on a bottle and hasn't finished it, i get rid of it after about an hour.

Re: Formula Questions
The similiac website states:
Note: Bottled or filtered water is not a suitable replacement for water that has been boiled, but it might be a better alternative to tap water in some areas. If you are concerned about lead or other harmful substances in your water, talk to your health care professional before making formula with tap water.
With that being said, I think I will use regular tap or brita water and boil it even though its a PITA. I would use bottled if I were out somewhere.
