welcome to homeownership-kinda gross

just need to vent a little bit...sorry if it's a little gross

we closed 2 weeks ago and have only been living in our home for 1 week. This morning, the shower wasn't draining and toilet wouldn't flush and was backing up.

DH plunged toilet and got the water to go down. Shower ended up finally draining and I thought it might be a clog was going to pick up drano on the way home...
so I met DH at the house for lunch today....and I tried flushing the toilet, same thing as this morning, and DH was outside and on the side of the house is the septic tank vent thingy. Well lovely toilet paper amongst other stuff was coming out of the vent. DH called his cousin (all around guy who can fix absolutely anything from plumbing to electric to cesspools to whatever) so our cousin comes and gets right to work, he and DH dug and found the septic tank. took the lid off, not full but does need to be pumped in the next year or so. Finally they locate the pipe leading into the house, well cousin goes in teh basement and starts taking the pipes apart and flushes them all adn snakes them and took out 3!!! garbage cans (huge garbage cans) of S***. There were baby wipes, paper towels, sanitary napkins, tampons etc clogging the pipes in the basement!!!!!!!!!!!!

we contacted out attorney and there is really nothing he can do, they did contact the previous owners who said that in the 7 years they lived in the home they never had the septic tank pumped AND just flushed somethign down the toilet once a month to "clean it up." OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sooooo we just finshed putting our lawn back together and mopping the basement and all in the house.....

so now we have 3 HUGE areas of our yard that were dug up and will have to put more top soil on and put seed down etc....

seriously, you just flushed something down the toilet once a month??????
UGGGGGG i'm still so upset and angry.

what a s****y day litteraly!

If you got this far, thanks for reading and sorry if gross.

like my mom and father in law said, welcome to homeownership!

That is gross & SO wrong!!!! This is our first experience with a septic tank and I've been STRESSING to DH not to flush things (we use toddler wipes for DS) and I insisted on buying septic safe Scott toilet paper.

Sorry you had I go thru that, but at least u guys caught it before it got worse!!!!!

They are lying. Clearly you have proof. Too bad there is nothing you can do.

We had a similar problem when we moved into our house, when I did laundry poop would back up I to my bathtub ( on the other side of the house). In our case the pipe was so old it was basically rotting from the inside and the settlement from that was causing the back up, once the pipe was replaced we were fine. Thank goodness for plumber friends !
