organic moms...

For the most part, when giving DS mac and cheese, I give him homemade. I'm not a huge fan of boxed stuff. But, with that being said, I sometimes need something that is quick and convenient for him. What brand do you give your DC? I was in Whole Foods yesterday and saw the Annie's whole wheat shells & white cheddar so I bought some. I gave it to him for dinner tonight and he hated it. Any other organic brands worth trying? TIA!

Re: organic moms...

Try Annie's Creamy Deluxe it is so good and 70% organic. It has a "Sauce" pouch instead of the powder packet. My favorite is the Shells & Real Aged Cheddar. Its a good alternative to homemade and so easy to make in a pinch because you dont need anything other than boiling water. I always have some on hand.

My kids like Annie's organic alfredo shells and cheddar (green box). I usually pick it up in Stop & Shop.

This is how I make it, both DH and DS love it!

1.5 cups of pasta- we use barilla plus
1 cup chopped onion
1 clove minced garlic
1 package of frozen veggie mix- I usually can get the Nature's Promise brand
2 cups of small cauliflower florets
2 tablespoons of milk
1 cup 2% cottage cheese
1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper
1/8 teaspoon of salt
1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese- we use sargento

Add pasta, onion, & garlic to boiling water. Cook for app. 3 minutes, and add peas, carrots, & cauliflower. Cook until tender, drain and set aside.
In a bowl, combine the milk, cottage cheese, mustard, pepper, and salt. Add to the pasta mixture. Stir in the Cheddar.
Return the pot to the heat and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes, or until the cheese melts and the mixture is hot. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.

I found it online and I like that I can hide veggies for DS.
Thanks for all the other suggestions ladies!!

organic moms...

I make mac & cheese and it's so easy. I boil the pasta, when done mix it with american cheese, milk and butter, and throw in some veggies. Tastes really good and super easy.

I buy DD the Nature's Promise Mac & Cheese at Stop & Shop. The Annie's doesn't use cheese that is free from hormones.

I make a super easy mac & cheese. I think it probably takes as long as a boxed one would.

Make your pasta as usual (al dente).

Meanwhile, melt 1 tbsp butter in small saucepan. Add 1 tbsp flour and whisk constantly. Add in 3/4 cup of milk and continue whisking. When it starts to thicken, turn heat down to med-low. Once thick, remove from heat and add in a handful of shredded white cheddar (I love the organic grass-fed white cheddar from TJ). Mix with pasta. That's it! The cheese sauce is always done before the pasta so it's super quick!

Sorry to hijack, but doesn't organic cheese have to be hormone free?

Re: organic moms...

Thanks everyone! I bought the Back to Nature brand today in the organic section of stop and shop. The pasta is in bug shapes, hopefully we have better success with this one!

Actually, some of Annie's mac 'n cheese products are organic (Example). Some of their products have just organic pasta not cheese and no USDA organic seal, but they do make some that are fully organic.
