Hey ladies! I'm not sure if I belong on this board or not but I figured you guys would be the best people to ask for advice. I'll try to keep my story as short as possible
I was put on the BCP at 15 for an erratic period - I would bleed for 2 days and then stop for a few days, then start again and stop - I was all over the place! Once I was on the pill, my cycle was perfectly normal.
Fast forward to last year, a few months before my wedding I had to cancel my annual exam because something came up. I figured I would wait until I got AF and then reschedule so that the 2 didn't coincide. Unfortunately, AF never came. I went to the gynecologist 2 months later and she didn't seem concerned, she said it was common for girls who are on the BCP for many years to skip periods. She put me back on the pill and I went back to being regular.
In December I decided to go off BCP to see if my cycle would regulate, my last period was December 4th - I haven't had one since!
I went to my gynecologist in March and she sent me for blood work which all came back normal. She also told me to take an ovulation test everyday for 3 months and record the results. I got postive OPKs on April 2nd, April 4th, April 23rd and April 25th - all the other days they were negative.
I went back to the gynecologist this past Wednesday and told her how my OPKs were and she basically just told me to continue with them and to BD when ever I got a positive. She told me to come back in 3 months.
Does this seem normal? She didn't seem to be concerned because I've gotten positives on the OPKs but where the heck is my period?
I don't know if I should go along with what she's saying or make an appt with an RE. DH and I have only been TTC for 2 months and I'm young so I know there's plenty of time but if there is an issue I would like to rectify it now. KWIM?
Thanks for listening ladies, any advice or input would very much appreciated. I don't know if I'm overreacting or if I should take the next step into going to an RE. WWYD?

Re: WWYD
Hello!
I was in a very similar position to you - I came off BCP on December (actually around same time you did) - and didn't get a period until February (which had to be induced by medicine by my gyno). I was concerned as well that it wasn't coming back to normal but she said it was normal for someone that was on BCP and plus I have PCOS. She told me to record my ovulation for 6 months and then come see her unless I got pregnant before hand - but after reading things, it looked like the ovulation sticks are not the best indicator especially if you have PCOS.
Fast forward to month after, still same situation, no period. I decided to make an appointment with an RE. Probably best decision I made - they're testing everything and I know in a week when I get all my results back, it will be comforting to know that it wasn't just me tracking things in a notebook for 6 months, but that I'm getting ahead of it. We also just started TTC, but I'd rather know what's going on with my body and lack of period earlier than later down the line.
It doesn't hurt to make the appointment. If you're near Brooklyn, I can recommend you to my RE. They're wonderful.
Best of luck to you!

Re: WWYD
Having wasted so much time on my own..I would say go to RE. They can test to see what is going on, and work with you and an erratic cycle to get pregnant. GOOD LUCK!

Re: WWYD
personally i would want to see an RE. your obgyn doesn't seem to be motoring you very closely and it seems like you should be.
My obgyn told me that after ttc for 8 months with a normal period cycle that she would send me to an RE. considering your lmp was in december...i would say its time to get another opinion.
good luck

Re: WWYD
wow... your ob/gyn seems pretty clueless to me!!! your case sounds a lot like PCOS.. erratic high LH (positive opk), no ovulation, no AF. i cant imagine that your hormone levels were perfectly normal either. def go to an RE and dont waste time with that ob/gyn anymore, she clearly is just there to deliver babies and not to help people regulate their cycles and get pregnant. your cycle is def not normal, a good RE will do testing, figure out whats wrong, and diagnose and treat the problem.
what i would do in the meantime is temp. use OPK and temp together so you can tell if you are ovulating after the +OPKs (which it doesn't sound like you are if you aren't getting AF).
good luck!

Re: WWYD
its been said many a time on these boards but i'll say it again because its true: it is an OBGYN's job to keep you pregnant. it is a RE's job to get you pregnant. given all the time i wasted with my OBGYN, i would highly reccoment seeing an RE to see why you are not getting AF. Many women who don't get AF take Provera (a drug to induce your period to come) and are able to conceive afterwards (with ot without help).
I too had all my bloodwork come back normal, but my ovaries are slightly enlarged, so my RE says I have a mild case of PCOS. You may be young, but its better to know what your up against, if anything, early on than finding out later.

Re: WWYD
I was in a similar situation as you.. and I agree with previous posters to contact an RE and don't waste your time with the OB GYN. I was on BC for many years, when I stopped I did not get AF.. I went to my OB GYN after 5 months of no AF, they did tests and told me just to take provera to bring on AF... this did nothing and they told me basically to take it again the following month. When I finally decided to go to the RE they were able to run thorough tests and give me some answers at least.

Nope. She just told me to keep doing the OPKs and to take prenatal pills.

Re: WWYD
Thank you so much for all the responses. I kind of figured that an RE would be my next step, I just didn't know how long I should wait before making an appointment. After hearing your feedback, I think I'm going to look into an RE asap!
Thank you again for all your help!
