How far in advance are you washing clothes?

I didnt have this problem last time since my twins were born before my shower, where I got most of my clothes from. But now I have all of DD's stuff that I can reuse and was just wondering how far in advance you guys are washing clothes for your LO's? I want to stay on top of things as much as possible but I also don't want to end up feeling that they need to be washed again because they've been sitting in the closet unused for too long.

I washed the week after my shower, so around 35/36 weeks. I am having the baby on Monday and I'm still washing stuff! I have the pack n play sheets, car seat cover, and bundle me thingy (the shower cap style) all in the wash right now!

Nursery is getting painted this weekend. Then hopefully carpet goes down next week. And then furniture should be week after that. That puts me around 31 weeks or so when it will be all done. Do you think that's too early?

Re: How far in advance are you washing clothes?

I am in my 32nd week and am in the process of washing clothes right now. This is our first and we got a ton of clothes for our showers so I had a lot of sorting to do to figure out what we were keeping and what we needed to exchange. I was going to wait a little bit but I figured while I was sorting I would just wash too. I am glad that I am getting it done now since my next focus is getting the nursery finished. It's a painted and the furniture is in there but I still need to get curtains up, find a lamp and things for the walls. I would say to get started early if you want, that way you can do things a little at a time and it's not overwhelming having to do it all at once.

I was 32 weeks at my shower. So by the time we sorted and went thru everything I want to say we washed all of his stuff around 34-35 weeks. I'm 36.5 weeks now so you think I would remember more clearly but I've seemed to have just lost all track of time by this pointChat Icon

I am almost 32 weeks pregnant with #2; opened up my containers with DD's #1 clothes last week and hope to start washing this weekend :)

Re: How far in advance are you washing clothes?

Last week at 32 weeks I washed a bunch of clothes. I separated by size and by types of items (pjs one pile, onesies another pile, pants, etc etc). I then tied each stack with ribbon and put all the clothes of the same sizes in sacks that I tied closed.

I still have a bunch of stuff that I haven't washed yet and still have all tags etc. in case I don't need them (mostly the carter's stuff since I kept my receipts and they'll take them back if I don't need them).

With DS, he came so early that we had nothing washed for him and it turned out fine. Just wanted to feel a little more prepared this time and also, I didn't want to keep shopping until I knew exactly how much of each size I already had etc.

Re: How far in advance are you washing clothes?

For me Im doing it as soon as dd2 dresser arrives. I'm hoping by 36 weeks. I just started going through dd1 clothes and they smell just like deft still. I washed everything before I stored it but I guess I'll rewash it.

Re: How far in advance are you washing clothes?

probably 2 weeks before baby is due. i don't want them to sit in the drawers for too long, then i'd want to wash them again.

for those who are first timers, don't wash every size in advance. most likely it won't all be worn and you could have returned some that wasn't worn. give it time!

Re: How far in advance are you washing clothes?

I'm due at the end of July. I'll probably start washing about a month before. I have everything organized right now so if anything happens where the baby comes very early DH or my mom can wash it all.

Re: How far in advance are you washing clothes?

I wouldn't until about 34w+. I feel like even clothes that are in the drawers get a weird smell if they sit too long. But I'm a little smell-crazy Chat Icon

I waited until the nursery furniture was in so I had some place to put the clean clothes away. The furniture was delivered on the 10th, I left the drawers open to air out for the week and then washed everything this past weekend. I am 36 weeks.
