IUI...

I have heard of allot of you ladies having this done. What' the percentage that it would work. It was offered to me as an option if I chose to do it. Does it hurt? WIll I be able to stand it? What does it feel like? Haven't decided yet if I want to go this route. Just trying to get some feed back.

Thank You Ladies!!

Re: IUI...

Crashing here. From what I have read online, I think an IUI increases your chances to like 15-20%, but some of that depends on your age. I had two IUI's. I conceived DD on my first and am 10w4d with my second from my second IUI. Most people don't experience and discomfort with an IUI. Maybe some slicht cramping after. There is alot of monitoring that happens prior to the IUI. They monitor very closely for ovulation. My ovulation was controlled my the med Ovidrel. If you do an IUI naturally you let your body ovulate on its own. If you do a medicated IUI, they will control ovulation with medication. Not a big deal- a small injection in your stomach and ovulation should occur within 48 hours. DH will produce the sample which is "cleaned" to get the best of the best swimmies. They are injected in through a very thin small catheter. You don't feel it. It takes about 10 seconds and that is it. You can go about your business as usual. Feel free to FM me if you have any questions. Good luck!!!

Re: IUI...

IUIs don't hurt at all... it's not the most comfortable thing but it's really not bad. If you can handle a pap smear, you will be fine.

It increases your chances a little bit over just going at it the natural way.. .but that also depends on your diagnosis and your dh's diagnosis.

Good luck!

Re: IUI...

I had 2 IUIs done in connection with taking clomid and neither worked.

It really depends on the issues you and your DH have. FOr some it wont increase the chances much.

Re: IUI...

No real pain, just a pinch. Feels like a pap smear. My first IUI I conceived my DD. Chat Icon I've had other TTC #2 and while a few failed I did get pregnant 3 times, although they ended in miscarriage. Nothing to do with the IUI of course. It just helps with the timing and eliminates the need for the sperm to travel. They are just hanging out and waiting right where they need to be. Chat Icon

They aren't expensive. We're paying out of pocket for another one next month (ran out of IF coverage) and it's going to cost between $800-1200 for everything.

Re: IUI...

WOW!! Only 7%?? I haven't decided if I am going that route! especailly if this is an out of pocket expense and there is no guarantee if it's gonna work or not. Everyone's different. Right now I am testing with OPK's and waiting to get my surge. I am supposed to start on CD10 but I started testing this morning..I'm so afraid I'm gonna miss it. I'm paying attention..and DH is ready to go. Today is CD 8!

Re: IUI...

IUI does not hurt at all. Its a very simple procedure I've had 5. Two were successful one resulting in dd who is now 14 months, and I am 8 weeks pregnant with my second. They can be combined with medications such as clomid or injectables or done unmedicated if you ovulate regularly.

Re: IUI...

These responses are great! I haven't decided if I am gonna have it or not. I was just wondering if it was painful or not because I am the biggest whimp alive. When I had the hysterscopy done it hurt like hell and I thought it might of been like that again! Just trying to get all the facts first! Plus until DH gets tested I think we shouldn't do an IUI! I keep reminding him he needs to do this SA but I think he's weirded out by the whole thing!!!
