Would you go to this party

I'm just about 8 weeks and I am feeling exhausted. I go to sleep by 9:30 every night and sleep 9 hours and yet I am still tired all day.

We haven't told anyone yet that we are expecting and plan to tell my parents in 2 weeks and his parents soon after that. We want to wait to tell friends until after 12 weeks.

So DH's Best Friend is having a 30th bday party tonight. We are supposed to have a double date for dinner and then go to the bar for the party. I will probably have to stay at least until 12 - maybe even 1. I hate having to pretend to drink by ordering club sodas. I feel dishonest and it's no fun being around drunk people all night when you are stone sober. A lot of our friends will be there and I also don't want to deal with them looking at me - I know they will be gossiping if they realize this is the second time they have seen me not drink recently. That and being tired and having my uncles wake tomorrow, makes me not in a party mood.

So, would you pull the pregnancy card or suck it up and go? I don't think DH's friend will care but his girlfriend (who I am friends with) will be mad if I don't show.

Can you go and say that you are not feeling very well and may have to call it an early night?

I would try to go but maybe leave early if I didn't feel up to being out so late. Maybe you can bail after dinner?

I would go because it's a 30th bday. You don't need to stay till 1am tho! I feel the same way and I'm in no partying mood.

My friend's engagement party is tonight and I have noooo desire to go since I have to go home to NJ from NY, then come back at night then back to NJ again. It exhausts me to think about it. But I'm just sucking it up

Sounds to me like you REALLY do not want to go so in that case I would not. But I would tell DH he should still go bc it is his BFF

I would just tell them you have the wake tomorrow and with a death in the family you do not feel up to going to a party.

Thanks for the responses.

It's in the city so the problem with leaving early is either I have to make DH leave with me or come home alone.

I hate being in the closet! I think my friends would be more understanding if they knew!!!!

I'm going to a bar tonight (but early, for happy hour). I am eyes closed exhausted and I already told my friends that I'm on antibiotics so I wont be drinking (they have awesome pizza which is why im going ) Also, I dont want to look like a flake and cancel at the last minute.

I would definitely give it a go, and make DH take you home after hanging at the bar for an hour or two.

Honestly if I didn't feel like it I wouldn't go. I'd tell them you're not feeling well and not up to it since it's your uncle's wake tomorrow. Alternatively if you feel bad you can go just for dinner and skip the bar using the same excuses.

Just have DH go and say you had stomach virus or cold, sorry you couldn't make it. Thats what we did. Im 8 weeks so know how ur feeling ... I'm shooo tired.

You should ask your DH what he thinks.

Depending on where you live... I'd call it an early night & let your DH party on.

It only gets harder to go out... with kids & being more pregant.

ugh at 8 weeks I felt TERRIBLE.. If you feel as bad as I did i would sit this one out.

8 weeks is right there with the most exhausting time of your 1st trimester!

Just for something different then what everyone has already said...

Are you close enough with your DH's bf's girlfriend to tell her what is going on? Will she keep it to herself if you explain that you are in early pregnancy and are just very exhausted to make it all the way there tonight, and have the wake again tomorrow?

We didn't tell the majority of our friends until 10-12 weeks but there were a few people that we told earlier on because of certain situations.

I was exhausted at 8 weeks.. I had to go to a couple of parties before we announced, and believe me it was no fun. I looked drained, and had to leave. DH didn't have fun either because I looked like I was ready to nap sitting at the bar.

If you don't feel like going, don't go.. let DH go. Once you guys announce, your friends will understand.

I'm sorry about your uncle and the wake, and honestly that is your excuse because it is true. You can't be there all night and then go to a wake the next day, regardless of being exhausted due to pregnancy or not. I'd go to dinner and then maybe to the bar for a "drink" and explain to the others that you have a wake, which I assume your DH is going with you to as well.
