Would it be rude to go to a hosting party (pampered chef, party lite etc..) & not order anything?

I've been to these kinds of parties before and ordered useful things but now I've been to invited to another and I don't need or want anything. I know the hostess is just trying to reach out to everyone she knows to come and I don't mind going but I know I don't want to purchase anything.

Is it rude to go and not buy anything? I'm sure if I "had" to buy something the cheapest thing would be around $50. If anyone here has hosted would you be offended? I have to say I hosted one myself and can't remember if anyone didn't buy I was just happy that they came and had a fun night with drinks and appetizers. Just not sure how others would feel.

If it were me and I did not want to order anything then I would RSVP no and say I had something else that night. Otherwise, I would go and at least order one small item.

I'd probably just be outright and say that you'd love to join for a night of fun but say you're not in the market for anything so you wont be buying.

I hope no one is offended, I love going to those parties but I rarely buy anything simply because I can't afford it (and they are overpriced). But I love the demonstrations and hanging out with friends. Maybe I should RSVP no from now on Chat Icon

I like going to them too but this one I think is just a waste of $$. It's a chocolate tasting party. I've personally never heard of it before. I know I don't want or need it especially since I started a very strict diet and excercise program. Need to fit into a tight gown in two months!!

I would never go without buying something small at least (ex. paring knife from pampered chef)

That's why I'm just curious how others felt especially those who hosted before. I hosted one and was only happy that people came.

I never think that there is an implied "with my RSVP, I shall buy an item" promise.....I think it's fine to go and hang out, see demo...and if you see something cool, you are free to purchase it.

Sometimes you see something that really impresses you, and you end up buying it. You never know.

I'd do and have fun and not put too much thinking into it.

I also thought they pull you aside when you wanna make an order? Or is that just for Chat Icon products? Chat Icon

If they are your friends I am sure they won't care if you don't buy something. If I had a party like that would be for fun and I would care less if anyone bought anything. But that being said, yes, I always feel weird going to those without buying so I always buy at least one small thing.

Can you see a catalog before or hand or look online at something? I would imagine for chocolate wouldn't be too pricey but then again you never know...

I sold Tupperware for almost 3 years and I am invited to parties all the time. There is not a piece I don't have. I still go and try to find one thing, but I give people a head's up.

That is silly. If I have a party for a friend I can care less if you purchase anything. I always look at those parties as a night out with friends to hang, catch up and drink some wine.

I don't think it's rude to not buy anything but I always feel compelled to do so anyway.

Re: Would it be rude to go to a hosting party (pampered chef, party lite etc..) & not order anything?

I NEVER go to these parties because I am not interested in buying anything, and I don't find them fun or enjoyable anyway.

HOWEVER, I really do not think it's rude to go and not order anything. If you don't see anything you like and can afford, you shouldn't feel obligated to purchase anything. I don't think you should have to make up an excuse and not attend because you probably won't buy anything.

JMHO -- from someone who never goes to these things anyway. Chat Icon

I couldn't go to one of those parties without buying SOMETHING. But that's just me.

Every one I've ever attended...from Pampered Chef to Passion Parties, I always buy at least one thing.

Personally - I feel extremely guilty NOT buying anything, but that's my own hang up. I usually RSVP "no" when I know I can't afford to buy anything.

I wouldn't go unless I were buying something, even if it's something small. Maybe you can find something as a holiday present for someone else you know.

I went to a candle party once and didn't purchase anything. She never said anything, but the host made it pretty obvious that she was annoyed...never again. If I have no intention of buying anything, I RSVP "no".

I am hosting one next week, and hardly anyone is coming & I fel bad for the rep whop is trvelling about 45 minutes to me for it.

So, I would prefer that someone would come, even if they weren't buying.

However, I always go with the intention of buying at least one small thing, but I don't get invited to a ton of them.

I have gone to a party and not bought anything. If nothing appeals to you, there really shouldn't be an obligation.

I usually do buy something, but felt OK not buying as well.

It's not rude....it's a party to go to and enjoy.

me too... and the small item might be a birthday/christmas gift for someone else, not necessarily getting yourself another thing.
