Re: um...so why are newborn photoshoots...

Like a PP wrote, b/c a lot of people feel pressured to do these things b/c it's the "thing" to do. I've seen it time and time again on this site...while I don't care if so and so wants to spend hundreds on a few pics of a newborn, it stinks when you see people writing that they feel bad they can't afford something.

It happens with elaborate first bdays too...I can never fathom why people feel they MUST do certain things...whatever happened to a small house party with pizza and cake? Large parties are great and all IF you can afford them and some people seem to put themselves in crazy debt for this stuff..

Anyway..I digress..sorry!! I just get fired up when i feel people pressure themselves. You can get adorable professional pics at a number of places OR you can take great pics yourself at a fraction of the price. Don't worry too much!!

Re: um...so why are newborn photoshoots...

This article just touches on why we charge what we charge, but I hope it provides some insight. Before I became a photographer, I also did not understand why it cost so much. But now that I have been doing this for a few years, I can promise you that we dont charge "just because we can" and because its a LIF fad.

It costs alot of money to run a photography business - and a newborn shoot is not just the 2-3 hours of taking pictures. There's the travel, set-up, breakdown, travel home, uploading, editing, burning, uploading to web, blogging, completing the customer's print order, etc. And then the business end of it - answering emails, buying props, equipment, etc. The list is neverending. I work every day - more than a full time job. THIS is my career. It is not a part time gig that I do only for fun. When I break down the costs, it is necessary to charge what I do to make a profit, and its not a very big one at that.

Here's the article, but I think I explained it all already Chat Icon

Why do photographer's charge so much?
