Charleston SC?

Can anyone recommend a place to stay in Charleston SC? What are the must see's and do's? I want to go for a long weekend. TIA.

I was there a long time ago and I think we stayed at a Holiday Inn a bit away from downtown but we took a walking tour of the historic houses and spots, we went on a visit to a plantation (Magnolia I think it was called), and just walked around the downtown area.

You do have to have the grits with cheese and bbq sauce...so yummy!

I also recommend the Double Tree in downtown Charleston.

All the tours down there are great. I don't really know of any hotels as we lived in Summerville and never stayed in a hotel in Charleston. There are a bunch of hotels in North Charleston near the outlets/airport though that are on the newer side.

We stay on Edisto Island, so not sure about hotels, but I highly recommend you eat at Jestine's and Hominy Grill. Neither fancy, just good southern food. Go shopping in the Old City market, but if you want a sweetgrass basket, you will find much better deals along Rt. 17 outside of Charleston. The ghost tour is fun, but we heard some of the same stories I've heard on the Gettysburg ghost tour, LOL.
