Spiders
Is this is just a normal thing in basements? I grew up in a high ranch do didn't really have a "basement". The downstairs was completely finished so there weren't many places that you'd see spiders and webs. But DH and I just bought a colonial and the basement is half unfinished (the laundry area/boiler room half) and every single time I go downstairs there's a new spider web w/spider, sometimes more than one web. Yes I know that spiders catch the bugs but if there's one true fear/phobia I have it's bugs and spiders. I just can't deal.
So I guess my long drawn out question is, is this a normal part of basments and I leave them alone or is this something that could become a problem and I should call an exterminator. I don't know what I'm supposed to do. Some are really big and fat.

Yuck and Yes... totally normal. Basements are humid and sticky and bugs have a tendancy to like it there. Lots of moisture too. It's gross.
In the Fall we used to get these things called camel cricket. They are the nastiest things EVER. We had to bomb the basement and called an exterminator. Since then we haven't seen them. Also, DH finished the basement and that helped too.

We get about 2 or 3 camel crickets a year. GROSS.
And yes, we get a LOT of spiders, even on our first floor. They gross me out, but not enough to call an exterminator.

I was going to google image camel cricket but decided against it.  I'll just take your word for it.
Ok so basically I just kinda suck it up and just wipe them up if I'm brave enough? Ugh...I hate this, it makes me scared to do laundry..i'm such a baby I know.

I take a sneaker and WHACK them. I just whacked such a BIG one the other night...it was huge. And camel crickets JUMP and really high too, so beware. Don't say we didn't warn you.

I have had a few in my house- I think it is just spider season. I am petrified of them! I do not live w/ any bugs and get my home exterminated every month- maybe it is from the hot weather?

I'd rather have spiders than the bugs they eat, so I usually leave them alone, especially in the basement.

I always heard that spiders are "good" to have, not only bc they eat the other bugs..but bc it shows that the basement is dry and not "wet" or having any moisture coming in
