Feeding workers
I am having my entire house painted and the last four days the painters were here, I went out and got them lunch, either McDonalds, Pizza, chicken, etc. Anyway is this customary? I don't feel like going out today, but I feel like I started something. I also buy them 6 bottles of gaterade each day.
Any thoughts?

Nope.. I never feed the workers. That's the foreman/main guy's job. I do provide drinks but if the foreman/main guy doesn't get them something to eat, I usually provide them with menus for them to order and have lunch delivered.

That was very nice of you, but no, I wouldn't do it again. I do offer them water or soda if they are working in my house most of the day, but that's about it.

I kept my fridge stocked w/ water, ice-t & gatoraid but they paid for their own lunch.
In less of course it was a personal friend doing a favor. Then we'd buy lunch.

I always feed my workers too. Pizza, heros, etc.
It is just a small price to pay for me, in case they screw something up and have to come back, at least they will remember I was extra special to them. That is our reasoning.
And I too felt like I started it, so what is another day or two? How long is your work going to continue for? Of course if it is months, you cant keep feeding them though.

I usually only feed workers I know them.
Otherwise I just give them drinks.

My rule is, if it is a one day JOB, I buy Pizza. If I know it is going to take more than one day...... THEY ARE ON THIER OWN............

They actually fed me one day-lol!! They always just take their lunch and one person would run for food.

we've never bought lunch for people.... we do always stock up on drinks for them, though.
This comment isn't directed at anyone specificially... please no one take this peronsally... but I just wanted to bring up this idea...
I know everyone calls it 'feeding workers' or on LIW 'feeding vendors'... but it's not that nice of a phrase.... after all, you don't feed your family or friends.... you make lunch for them, or buy lunch...... you feed an animal.... I wish collectively as a group we could put 'feed' to rest, and come up with a more personable term....

We just had burner installers and landscapers at our house ealier this week and we ordered a pizza for them and provided them with bottled water. I am of the thinking that if you treat them well they will do a good job for you.

ok, so I have the electrician coming tomorrow morning to install an attic fan, fix the lights in both bathrooms and replace my outside sensor lights in the front. He says figure about 4 hrs. He's getting here at 8am ..I think bagels and cold drinks work.
It's going to be 100 degrees in my attic and on my roof tomorrow.

I would not buy lunch or any kind of food for people doing work unless they were friends or family helping us out. Its their job. I would offer cold water on a hot day like today, but thats all.

That's very nice of you to buy lunch for the people painting your house. After four days of buying lunch, NOW you're upset?
I say, finish what you've started, and the next time someone comes to work on your house, only offer them drinks. You are the one who set the standards for them, they didn't ask you to go out and buy them lunch. Again, a very nice gesture on your part! You can't just give them food for four days, and then expect them to go out and buy for themselves. You set the precedent. Finish what you started.

As a construction worker myself, I'd by shocked if someone bought me lunch. Even water or Gatorade. If they offer something to drink, I would think them extremely nice, but I always have my own. You are paying them for their services, lunch is not part of it. I think it is poor of the foreperson to let you continue buying them everything.

We usually pick up lunch and always have soda and water available - but I've never had workers for more than 3 days. If it was going to be a long project, I think I would stop at beverages.

When I had workers here doing our roof and siding, I had 2 coolers outside for them filled with water and gatorade for the week they were here, but NO way would I buy lunch for ALL of them and for those many days.
when I had a worker here for 1 or 2 days and it was just 1 guy yes then I did.
I even bought 1 guy a christmas gift and gift for his dog, he was here painting our entire first floor right around the holidays. He was a family friend who was rec too.

HMMM.......I just re-read my post and I don't recall saying that I was upset. I was just asking if other people get lunch for workers. Not that I need to explain myself, but my son was sleeping and I did not want to have to drag him out the moment he woke up.

That's because in my experience with all the work we've had done in our house, the workers always bring their own lunches/drinks with them.
