My doctor told me to...
BD every other day from days 10-21 - isn't that a lot of BDing?
Would I miss an O day by any chance if I do it this way?
If we start at day 10, will the spermies get tired and not be as prolific by O day?
sorry for all the questions. A colleague's wife is having a baby and I organized the shower today at work and am going thru major, major, MAJOR baby fever. MAJOR.
I am officially baby crazy. I want this to happen soon.
OK, rant over. Help me figure out when to get jiggy!!!

Re: My doctor told me to...
You have 28ish day cycles right?
If so, BDing every other day from CD 10 - 20 is the easiest plan.
Yes, it's a lot of BDing!
No, you won't miss your O date. By BDing every other day, you are making sure that there are always sperm in there waiting for the egg (which is most effective).
The sperm count takes about 48 hours to replenish, you if you stick to every other, you'll have lots of good sperm! As long as DH doesn't have any problems with count then that sounds like a fine plan if you don't plan on using OPKs or anything like that.

You know, I asked my doctor if I should use OPK's - even though I didn't want to. If she said yes, I would have though. She told me, No! She said they can stress people out....

My cycles are 28 days exactly. *Sometimes* 29 - but that's only on the months when I think I might be pregnant!!!

My RE wasn't really into OPKs either. She told me "have sex from the time you stop bleeding (eww) until the time of your next suspected period)" - that would work for some people because it covers all of the bases.
For us, that was MUCH more stressful than just BDing around O time based on OPKs/CBEFM/temping.

ITA with the other ladies, that starting at CD 14 is WAY TOO LATE for you to begin BDing!

Oh, I don't plan on leaving!
I hope nobody will mind if I stick around.. at least the first trimester! Plus, we want to have our kids really close in age... so I plan on sticking around for a long time!

Yes, I don't want to sound like I'm getting involved in your business or the advice that your MD gave you - but I am
If your cycle is 25-28 days, then the "average" woman would O around CD14 - that by no means mean everyone does. If you are just starting to BD on CD14, you are missing the boat! You want to have sperm in their waiting for the release of the egg. I would HIGHLY recommend, if you want to do to the every other day thing and skip OPKs, that you start on CD8.

Re: My doctor told me to...
This thread just confused me. So when should you start? According to the charts you become fertile around CD 10 but you are VERY fertile CD 13. Why wouldn't you BD CD 13? Why are you saying CD 14 is too late? You can still get pregnant after you ovulate no?

It depends on your cycle length....
How long is yours?
The egg can only be fertilized for (I THINK) 12-24 hours after it has been released.

There is a possibility that the egg hangs out maybe a day after you ovulate - that's slight. CD14 is too late to start as you want to have sperm in you already when the egg is released. If you ovulate, for example, on the 14th day of your cycle (CD14), the you really want to have BD a few days before and the day after (basically from CD10-15, not necessarily every day but it doesn't hurt - unless there are known sperm issues). Does this make sense? Sorry, i know it is confusing
ETS: We were saying CD14 is likely too late for CoutureMaMa to start since her cycles are 25-28 days- meaning she probably ovulates mid-cycle. For someone that ovulates later, and has a longer cycle, CD14 could be a perfect time to start the BD marathon.

I usually have a 28 day cycle. Last month it wanted to confuse me and I had a 26. I thought I O'd on the 13th so we BD on the 11th, 13th, 14th

Are you using OPKs?
You might want to BD every other day starting at CD 8 or 10, and then once you get your +OPK, BD that night and the next 3 nights.

She may be right-- but since my DH works late so many nights, in my case I would find it more stressful trying to BD every other day for that time period
I think that it depends on you personality. I know that there are people who would be stressed out temping, but it never stressed me out. I actually found it an interesting experience in learning about my body.
This time around, I'm using to OPKs to confirm that I have my O time correct. (I've been tracking my cycles w/ CM only for almost a year now and want to make sure that I'm right with when I'm Oing.)
