SA analysis
So the problem with the lab with hubby's test was a few problems. First, the kit they gave me was missing some sort of warming pack that is supposed to get wrapped around the specimen contain in transport. (we live 5 min down the road from the hospital where the outpatient lab is). Picked it up on a saturday and by the time i realized something was missing the lab was closed for the weekend.
So when we did this over xmas break I called the lab first thing monday morning and asked. Apparently this happens b/c the nurse huffed and puffed and wasnt shocked that someone else was calling about this. they suggested i take a water bottle with warm water and rubberband it around the container. In the craziness of things I couldnt find a rubberband and we had 20 min to get the container to the lab. So my hubby's idea is to heat up a tupper ware container in the micro to warm the water and put the specimen cup in a baggie and just put the baggie in this container.
I get to the lab and they give me the pack to wrap around. Fast forward to this week my hubby's primary care dr. got a copy of the results and they called first. the nurse said "im very sorry but i dont have good news..there is still sperm present in your sample." So now we're and my hubby is like "well isnt that a good thing" Nurse says "not for a VASECTOMY!"
So the lab marked his paper work for post vasectomy analysis. My hubby almost crapped himself.
The next day i get the nurse at my GYN's office to give me the results and she says to me the counts and morphology were good but the motility not so good and its not likely we'll get pregnant on our own. (why a nurse would say that and not have the dr. tell me that i dont know..) So im at work crying now freaking out. Fearing the worst.
Fast foward to today and i see my dr. and go over everything. She wants another sA done b/c of everything that happened. Basically we probably damaged the sample with the hot water nonsense b/c his counts were off the chart. She found it very odd those were high but the motility so low.
Hubby felt like a superstar when he saw the count was like 140 milllion.LOL..
So we'll see. Dr. is not worried that anything is wrong. Although i am going to go for an HSG test on Day 9 (if AF shows this month) and go from there.
so thats my story.

Re: SA analysis
What an ordeal! I'm so sorry you had all that trouble!
I hope it goes much smoother next time and the results are good!
Also, how long did it take to get the results? DH might do an SA next month and I'm just curious.
Thanks and good luck!!

Re: SA analysis
You definitely need another SA.
A heated sample can't be good or accurate...
I'm surprised with this whole warming packet thing anyway. We just had to have a sample and bring it within 30 minutes to the lab. If you live 5 minutes away, it shouldn't be a problem at all and shouldn't need any warming mechanisms I dont' think. Can DH just do it in the lab next time?
Are you working with an RE or ob/gyn?

Re: SA analysis
My Dh just gave a sample today. They didn't give us anything to keep it warm. The instructions just said to keep it in your pocket to keep it warm!!! Sorry you went through that!! I can't believe they said it as Post VASECTOMY!!!!

Re: SA analysis
we did the test 12/29 and the lab says the test itself is done within 24 hrs. But it was waiting to get the results from the dr's.
however, the holiday probably made it much longer than it should have been.
I live in PA and i swear..you can only be sick M-F from 9-5..no one is ever around on weekends or evenings around here!

Re: SA analysis
Im working with an GYN right now and even she was surprised the lab asked for a warming pack. She said you could put it in your coat pocket or hold it in your hands and it would be fine...LOL.
we live 8 min maybe down the road from the hospital where both the GYN and lab is. But im going to find a different lab. I dont trust them after all this nonsense!
