To bank or not to bank cord blood?

What are your thoughts? I know this is a personal choice but a large part of me is very skeptical. Discuss!!

Re: To bank or not to bank cord blood?

With my dd we didnt.. to be honest didnt think of doing until after I joined LIF.. and had joined a couple of weeks before dd was due.. so time kinda ran out for us.

This time around defiantly doing. Spoke with a Viacord rep and liked her answers to my questions and feel comfortable with them.

Doing it for sure. Just want that extra insurance in case it can be used in the future.

Re: To bank or not to bank cord blood?

We did it for our first...and are doing it for our second. It is a personal decision, but for us, we didn't want to have any regrets.

we did it and hope that it is the silliest money we ever spent. i wouldn't know what to do with myself if she (or one of us) needed it and it wasn't banked!

We did not use it for DS and won't for this baby either.

Re: To bank or not to bank cord blood?

We spoke with my OB about it and decided to take his advice and bank the cord blood. He told us that if someone asked him what he thought about it 5 years ago he would've told them it was a waste... but now, after so many strides have been made in the use of the cord blood, he would do it if he were having a child himself. We went with Viacord.

We did it. Hopefully we'll never need it but we both felt very strongly about doing it. We used CBR.

obviously, this has been discussed before... so I figured I'd post a link to a prior thread

prior cord blood discussion

I posted my belief that it is money well spent Chat Icon I think 10-20 years from now, it likely could save our kids from many more diseases than today.

it's a great 'insurance policy' IMO

Same here. I didn't for my first but my 2nd has a 75% of helping my first if God forbid we needed it.

Same here - and with the break-throughs in technology every day, I would never want to look back and wish I did it....I look at it almost like life insurance (you never want to use it but its there forbid you ever need it)...Cancer is a biggie in my family and there are strides every day with different cancers and stem cells- I have a feeling thats where medicine is heading Chat Icon - but I agree, its is a personal decision !
