Re: Opinions please

I think it is very gracious of you to offer to take care of the baby. If you think that you will be too tired to enjoy your shower the next day, I would tell your friend asap so she can get another friend or family member to care for her LO. I am sure she will understand since she just had the baby. Good luck!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Opinions please

honestly, you offered so you can't really complain. I could see if they asked then yes, I would completely understand, but when you offered its not really the same.

Besides, this way you will look refreshed at your shower instead of gross from being at a club the night before.

Personally, I would make DH stay home with me and the baby

I edited the post, I was asked to watch the baby that night becuase they obviously knew I wouldn't be going preggo.

Re: Opinions please

my thoughts don't change, don't be upset that your non-preggo friends are going out the night before. I'm sure they will be ok and in good shape for your shower.

Re: Opinions please

I would watch the baby and not be mad at the friends...I'm sure they didn't plan it that way on purpose. But...I would ask DH to be home at a reasonable hour--maybe by midnight the latest--so that I could get some sleep in case the baby is fussy. And I'd ask him to pay attention to his cell, because if taking care of the baby is really hard, I'd call or text and ask him to come home and help me.

Re: Opinions please

Thanks ladies, I have been emotional all weekend and this is just not helping..I am really upset about it, mostly that DH is going and will be out that late. He will be at the shower, and I don't want him to be miserable and cranky. I feel like my shower is really special to me and much more important than going out the night before. I don't think I am being selfish.

Re: Opinions please

I don't think its unfair... I mean if they call came hungover and a mess to your shower, then you should be upset. But I am going to assume your friends and DH are responsible adults who understand the shower is the next day and just want to go for a night out.
I really don't see an issue with this.

With respect to DH, no, I don't think you're being selfish. You two are in this pregnancy together. I wouldn't stress about him being miserable and cranky now. You don't know that he will be, even if he is out late. If he is, then you can be mad after. But I'd still want him out at a decent hour to help me. What time is he saying he thinks he will be home?

ugh..I'm sorry. I would be annoyed at that too. I actually don't know that I'd be willing to watch a baby that is a month old by myself until 4am when I'm that preggo. Especially since I'm a first-time mom and don't have experience with newborns yet.

ETA--The baby's mom is planning on being out that late too? There's no way as a new mom of an infant that young that I'd be out until 4am!

Re: Opinions please

you are the one who knows your DH best... i personally would not be upset but only because i know my DH can go out late and be fine on very little sleep.

are you planning on watching the baby all night? is the baby's mom staying out till 4am as well? this i might have an issue with (based solely on my opinion, of course, not on "right vs. wrong")

I guess I am in the minority, but I wouldnt have asked you to watch my baby knowing that the next day is your shower.....especially when the baby could very well be fussy....I would be so annoyed as well, but I guess you really have no choice ..hopefully you will still be able to get some sleepChat Icon

huh. well i personally cannot imagine leaving a 1-month old baby until 4 am, but that's just me.

if you don't feel that you can do it, i would tell them, and explain why. you should not be made to feel guilty about this!

Seriously?? The mother of a 1-month old infant plans to stay out that late. Well, she's got a lot more energy than I had at 1 month post-partum.

I think it's a lot to ask of you -- babies that young can still be pretty active at night -- you'll be changing diapers and getting bottles ready a couple of times throughout the night.
