This is our first, and first grandchild on both sides. I am still kind of in total oblivion about everything. I also have been very avoidant about reading about the actual birth process and such......I think I will just be able to handle it a lot better if I go in there totally clueless. Same for when the litte one is actually here LOL. We do have family nearby, and close friends who have an almost 2-year old who are now pros.

This is my first and we are very scared. It is hard and scary enough caring for a newborn but on top of it ours will be born with a serious congenital heart defect. The health issue is what is scaring me the most at this point.

First time for us and I"m so nervous. I don't have a great maternal instinct and I don't go "goo-goo" over other people's kids. Everyone says that will change when I have my own.

We are!! We have been around lots of kids, but DH has never even changed a diaper before. I'll tell you what I told him..it will come naturally and if not, then we will learn it together (you and your DH will learn together too).

A word. My best friend had her first child when she was 24. She never changed or fed a baby before. She was not really around a lot of babies and, like you, was the first in the group to have children. When i went to visit her after she got home from the hospital I was in shock at how easily she slipped into the mommy role. It was amazing! And, she continues to be one of the most amazing parents I know. Don't stress about it. You will have instincts that come naturally and you will learn the rest as it comes.

This is our 1st, but we are among the last of our friends to have children. This makes #11 for my MIL, so there are also tons of children on DH's side of the family.

This little guy is the 1st grandchild for my parents though, which makes it all the more exciting!!
