Why are people so opinionated?

DH and I decided not to warm all of the bottles we give to Chat Icon . I mean, if I am home or it is the last bottle of the day, I am fine with warming it. But, all of the children in our family have had bottles made of room temp water and the powdered formula. It is what we are familiar with and it will be so much easier when we go to the store and Chat Icon gets fussy for a bottle.

So, my friend comes up to me and tells me that I didn't register for a bottle warmer. I told her we weren't going to. I told her why, and that I did some research on LIF and on the internet, and I don't really find it to be necessary. She looked at me like I had 100 heads and basicually said "well you do what you want" but the underlying response was "you are out of your mind." Why can't people just keep their opinons to themselves?

The opinions are just starting, Bubbs!

My DD never had a warm or cold bottle in her life. We used the powder which we added to the sterile water.

SO much easier and you never have to worry about keeping the bottles cold.

It is a well known fact that it is better for the body to drink liquids at room temperature anyway!

My current opinionated friends and family are currently harping on breast feeding....Giving me stats on how much healthier breast feeding is.

I wasn't planning on doing it, but after looking into it, I might have to cave and try because it really is so much better for baby. Their opinions are definitely influencing me!

Re: Why are people so opinionated?

It's so hard...but remember you are the parents...and no matter what others say, its only about what you do. Whenver people ask me for advice, I tell them what worked for us, but always say, all babies are different, so don't go totally by what I say.

Re: Why are people so opinionated?

I understand what you mean. Everyone has a comment for everything and they all want to tell you what they did because they are the "perfect" parents.

If you want to avoid the opinion of others again I would just tell them that you're not getting a bottle warmer because you feel it's a waste of money. We never used one because IMO they are a waste of money. We just microwaved water and would put the bottle in there for 30 seconds.

Try not to listen to everyone and try not to let them bother you. Like I said everyone is going to tell you what you have to get. Whether you want them to tell you or not.

Well, I plan on BF for the first 4-6 weeks in combination with formula feedings as well. I think the nutritional value with BF is great and DH can help feed Chat Icon with formula as well.

I don't plan on warming bottles, I think it's very unnecessary, but I would never push my opinion on someone else. People are so annoying Chat Icon

Re: Why are people so opinionated?

People always think they know best and it is SO annoying!

She is right though, do what you want! It is your baby, not hers. And speaking from experience, my DS never cared if it was warmed or room temp either, so I just did room temp!

I learned sometimes it's best just to keep my mouth shut so I do no have to listen to everyone's opinion! We registered for a bottle warmer, but I can honestly say that there is probably a 50-50 chance we'll return it - the only reason why I put it on there is because we are having twins and I thought it would help avoid the twenty trips up and down stairs in the middle of the night. However, if it turns out room temp water is fine (I hear babies are all different regarding that), it will probably go to waste. You could always get one down the road anyway, especially since you will most likely get a ton of gift cards.

My DS takes his bottles straight from the fridge - maybe someone should report me! Chat Icon Chat Icon

He was just screaming one night when he was about a month old while I was trying to warm the bottle at 3 am, so I just popped it in his mouth. He ate it happily and I never warmed another one.

people need to learn to shut it. Why is she so invested in your registry anyway? Chat Icon

Thats what I think I am going to do.

Do you know how often you should offer formula when trying to establish breast feeding? My friend told me that the lactation consultant said "no bottles" for the first four weeks.

I remember with DD there was no milk for a few days after birth and she was screaming for food, so of course we gave her the bottle...

Don't even listen! I have learned so many things from this site that I never heard elsewhere and they are completely on target!

I never warmed her bottles either- it was either breast milk or lukewarm formula. She survived and now drinks ice cold milk!Chat Icon

I will be honest- My SIL obeyed that rule and her DD wouldn't take the bottle without a HUGE fight when she had to return to work. Due to supply issues I had to supplement early on and my DD had no trouble with the transition from breast to bottle- she loved them BOTH! If you are concerned about supply, just use pumped breast milk and avoid the formula for the four weeks. Just my two cents as a BTDT mom....

Re: Why are people so opinionated?

I pre make Kristina's formula, so therefore have to keep it in the refrigerator. Unfortunately, she hates the milk ice cold, but I just warm it for a couple of seconds, and she is ready to go.

The comments/suggestions/advice warranted or unwarranted are just beginning. Learn to turn a deaf ear, and you will be a LOT happier!

Re: Why are people so opinionated?

I hate that kind of advice... it's not advice it's pushy.

Anyway, you don't need to waste money on a warmer... my BFF takes her bottles and puts the closed bottle in hot water (she has an instant-hot feature in her sink)... I plan on doing the same thing with my platex drop ins. People should just shut up!

Re: Why are people so opinionated?

Oh please!!! I had one what a waste- in fact DS is now almost 2 and still hot or even warm things-the child just hates things warmed up so it was a waste for us and to be honest I was glad he hated it because it made my life easy-do what is best for you and your family and let others do and think what they want. Best of luck to you!Chat Icon

I just came on to read updates and saw this..
You honestly (IMO) do not need a bottle warmer. I feel they are a waste.
Yes, I did warm DS' bottles..
I took a coffee mug (a large one) filled it with HOT water and let the bottle sit in there until it was warm (the chill was out).

I used room temp water and powdered formula for Hayley and plan on doing it for this one too!

Like you said, if you are out and can't warm a bottle because that is what baby is used to, what are you going to do, leave?
