We went to AC on thursday and gas was $3.10 on Garden State Parkway, coming home on saturday, it jumped up to $3.27!

It definitely jumped 20 cents in a day or so...the gas station by us was 3.43 on Friday morning and Saturday it was 3.67....

It definately is getting out of hand! I mean, I do not do the cruising around anymore & just try to do all my errands on my way home, so I don't have to use the extra gas. With that said, it is sickening that we can't do anything about it. The cost of living is growing yet people are being laid off & the salaries are definately NOT staying up with all the rising costs.
My parents live in Maine where it is also $3.40 a gallon. They have no choice but to drive when they need to get around. There is NO public transportation in their town & to get anywhere, you are can't walk...I don't get how they will do it if it gets any higher

I get gas near my office in Massapequa, I paid 3.55 on Friday, it was 3.67 at the station closest to my house when I got home.
DH said it was over $4 in the Hamptons last week.
Thank god for my Prius but my DH still needs his truck for work
We never use it when he's not working.
I agree that the pricing has a lot to do with China and India, however I'm still a firm believer that we have the power to force automakers into building better green vehicles. If we combined that with a true effort to use less & demand more alternative energy choices for our homes & businesses we'd at least see prices stabilize over time.
People are still running out & buying cars & SUVs that get 22 MPG or less because now the cars are "cheap".
It will cost us all in the end.

I don't even want to get in the car anymore - which is good - since it curbs my spending. I try to fill up whenever I dip below 3/4 of a tank, so it doesn't hurt as much.
I agree that it has everything to do with demand from India and China, but Americans are such gluttons for oil. Maybe this will force us to live more like the Europeans.
It also kills me that diesel is so much - doesn't it take less processing to make diesel? Raising diesel so much is just going to raise commodities even more and hit us in the pocketbook harder.

I drove to see my parents in Nassau on Saturday and people on the SS Pkwy were driving like maniacs!!!!! I was going about 62-65 MPH and cars/SUV's were passing me like I was at a standstill.
yea - they're worried about gas prices  I have read some articles that when you drive faster than 62 MPH, it's costing you approx 54 cents more per gallon.

now i have to fill up my pathfinder every other day... as i commute 60 miles each way to work and don't have the option of taking the train

With such a heavy dependence on gas it is no surprise to me the prices are going up and will continue to climb.....things will change when our dependency on gas changes

It's actually depressing.  Our government needs to take some action and change. The ones in charge are so friggin greedy. I'm fearing that it's no longer 'for the people'

I have a hyundai elantra 4 cyl. and I can honestly say I can not keep up. I basically just drive to work (but my job requires a lot of driving around w/ out a gas/car allowance). I can not cut back anymore than I already have.
You will see people stop spending on resturants, etc. It takes time. People who live paycheck to paycheck will cut back first and then it will move up the ranks.
Unfortunately, by the time we start making these "green" cars at the production level regular cars are at we will be a 3rd world country
