What a gorgeous dog... I wish I could take him... can you try a breed-specific rescue? Can you foster him until a permanent home can be found? Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I wish I could help you...and that poor dog.

I just can't believe that the only family this dog has ever known is turning him in to likely be killed. I just can't wrap my mind around that...I am hugging my dog and crying as I read this.

i have fought with my mom numerous times already about this. she keeps making excuses like 1) its for the safety of my children 2) she doesn't like keeping him in the basement when my 2 little ones are over

i cant change her mind and i cant fight with her anymore. all i can do is hope to find a home.

Re: Please help me find a home

that's the only pic i have right now.

i have called around and got told they will put them to sleep because they run out of room. so after a week or so if no one adopts him he could be gone.

north shore said they won't take him

You can post on petfinder... and I would X-Post this to FHF and NFR and LIW... can't hurt. I am wracking my brain, his little face is so cute, I want to help... Have you tried Little Shelter?

FM MrsMBV, she may have some better suggestions.

Re: Please help me find a home

We had to find a new home for my brothers dog who was ill, and it wound up being a friend of a friend of my mom's co worker that took him. He is so happy there and the family is too.

It took a while, but don't give up hope! He is adorable.

I haven't been able to convince my parents to keep Raider. I have prolonged them getting rid of him and that is it. I haven't been able to change their mind.

My parents want to bring Raider to the shelter on Saturday if I don't find him a home.

I am so upset. He is a good dog with a lot of heart. He just needs some loving and its something my parents can't offer him.

He is a mix part Shepard part rottie we think. We got him as a puppy a few weeks old from Islip Shelter. He was malnurished and almost died. The dr had to give him steriods, which has made him a little hyperactive.

He will be 3 this summer.

He is a strong dog and he needs to be trained not to jump up on people. He doesn't jump to hurt he jumps because he wants you to love him.

I am crying as I am writing this because I would love to take him, however we have 2 dogs and are moving to a smaller place in a few months and won't be able to accomodate 2 kids, a rabbit and 3 dogs. The shelter will put him to sleep and I don't want that.

Please help!! If you know anyone that would like a dog like this people let them know he needs to be rescued.

You poor thing! I would be disgusted with my family if I were you, to the point that I might even never speak to them again..

I just have to get this off my chest though, do your parents care at all that their dog might be put down? As the people who adopted him, they should be the ones to find him a new home, they committed to him. But I am sure you already know this....so my intention isn't to hurt your feelings. I just can't keep my mouth shut here, I am traumatized by reading that their dog of 3 years they could care less if a shelter kills him. THat to me is outrageous, esp since he isn't a bad dog or a dangerous dog in anyway.

I wish I could help you...and that poor dog.

I just can't believe that the only family this dog has ever known is turning him in to likely be killed. I just can't wrap my mind around that...I am hugging my dog and crying as I read this.

Has he had any training? Wow, I don't know your parents and don't want to say things about people I don't know, but this is completely heartless. If his only issue is jumping on people, that can be EASILY corrected with training.

Re: Please help me find a home

How horrible that after 3 years they could care less if he gets put to sleep.

So they think it is better that he is homeless or dead, rather then sit in the basement while your children visit ????
No offense but that is really sad.

He is a beautiful boy and looks like a sweetheart.
Please don't give him to a kill shelter.
Kent animal shelter is a no kill.
It is worth the ride to save his life.

Please don't take any offense ,I just feel so bad for this dog.

They don't want to correct him, it's obvious. The dog is a breed that likely needs exercise, that they aren't committed to giving him. If they are turning him in to a shelter without trying to find a home for him (which they rightfully should be doing), then they aren't going to spend time training him. The reaons they don't want him, IMO< are their own faults (lack of exercise for the dog, he's likely bored, needed training, an outlet for energy, etc) and weak reasons...they just can't be bothered, bottom line. They would rather dump him in a shelter than try to help give this dog a nice life. And they would rather dump him in a shelter to be put down, than put him in another room when their grandchildren come by. Just cruel if you ask me.

I don't mean to sound harsh.Chat Icon
I feel terrible for the OP who is trying to do the right thing for the dog...and her adult parents.

Re: Please help me find a home

WOW thats horrible. I mean theyve had this dog for 3 yrs and they have NO attachments to it?? They dont care if hes put to sleep??? I dont even know this dog and i care!!!

Can you at least talk them into keeping him while you actively look for a new home for him? I mean, a week isnt long and thats all the shelter will give??

Please dont take offense bc this is to people in general but- people need to think LONG AND HARD before committing to an animal. They deserve more than someone who is too lazy to care for it

I will ask around my school to see if anyone is interested

Re: Please help me find a home

unfortunately i have been in your situation with my parents as well. so therefore i cannot say anything. this is what i did though...........

put up flyers at the library, supermarkets, laundry and post office.

it works! someone will see him and fall in love and give him a good home! it will take alittle work and alittle driving but it will be well worth it. there are always people looking at those bulletin boards............good luck! keep us posted!

Training really really really helps. We used Bark Busters for Rudy and he no longer jumps when people come in. At 70 pounds he was doing this ALL the time and people get scared of him.

Guys - she is doing her best of the situation.
She has tried with her parents - see previous posts!!

She was coming here to see if anyone could help her find the dog a home, she wasn't looking to be critized for looking for a home for the dog.
Can't you help her out and see if you can help her find a decent home for the dog????

If you can ALL see that the dog needs a little bit of training or what have you - you can tell the people that are interested in the dog - that the dog just needs a little bit of training but needs to be in a house with people that are willing to do it. Come on now.

I'm sorry that everyone made you feel bad, its just your post was such a shock to everyone on this board because we all care so much about animals.

Is there a money issue with not getting him training? Maybe you can offer to help with that?
I hope you have luck with petfinder or a rescue organization. It would be a tragedy to send this dog to a kill shelter. Sadly this story is so common.Chat Icon

No one criticized her. We complimented and sympathized with her. We KNOW she has tried, no one said anything negative to her, about her.

Yes, we did comment and critcize her parents, how could we not? I'm sorry if it's harsh but it's is extremely upsetting to read, esp after watching Oprah seeing perfectly good healthy dogs killed by the numbers each day in shelters and dumped in a dumpster like garbage.

I know she is upset, and so are we after reading this...and we would all help her in anyway we could to try to find a home for the dog. But I don't think it's fair to expect us animal lovers to not react to this from a animal lover's point of view.

Shelters put dogs to sleep b/c they don't have the room. Perfectly healthy, homeable dogs, in the hundreds each week are killed b/c they just don't have the room.

NS won't take him, they don't do that. Many shelters won't take him as well.

I see what you are saying - but critizing her parents is like critizing her.
Everyone is upset, so am I. I wish I could take him, but I do have the word out to the others that are trying to find a home.

It is what it is - everyone knew from previous posts - she has been trying and offering to do training for the dog.
There is nothing more that she PERSONALLY can do, other than find a home.
So lets all try and help her
