I agree. With the original post.
My wedding was awesome and I would have been THRILLED to share wonderful news with someone that I loved while I was there. It would have only added to the beauty of the day for me.
My brother's best friend's wife announced that she was pregnant to her husband at my brother's wedding. She had the band play "Having My Baby" and dedicate it from Dave to her. It was an amazing moment and one that my brother and his wife cherish and still talk about to this day. They didn't mind that part of their day was shared with a couple that they loved. And it didn't bother them that for a few moments people stopped pressing in on them with congratulations and hugs and instead focused a little love on someone else.
To each his own, eh?

Nice story... Very "I love Lucy-esque" (which happens to be one of my favorite episodes ever!)

The reason I disagree on the whole proposal at my wedding is 2-fold.....
1-the guy proposing must be the biggest jackass to even think that the engagee would be happy about it.............
2-If I'm plunking down multiple tens of thousands of dollars on my wedding, the day had better be about me and DH and ONLY me and DH.........I had some people try to intentionally make my wedding day about them and I didn't appreciate it one bit.
As far as another bride, I completely agree, just because it's my day doesn't mena it isn't anyone else's......I saw another bride, no biggie................I was ohtter than her anyway......

This is going to sound sarcastic but I swear its not
I think it is so nice that some of you ladies are saying that it wouldn't have bothered you on your wedding day - i think that is really great. . .i wish that i could say the same but the more i think about it the more certain i am that i would be heartbroken
oh well, we all have our vices - and to think I am often referred to as "Pollyanna"!

no, it's not that sweetie.
I understand that you have people in your life that somehow always manage to steal the spotlight. My sister is a CLASS A spotlight poacher. she's turned it in to an olympic sport.
there ARE people who do that on purpose. In that instance I can see being upset. and rightfully so.
but I just want YOU to know, that as much as they can try all they want...the beauty of your wedding day is in the knowlege that forever more you will be the center of at least one persons world...the apple of their eye..the greatest light in their life.
let the monkey's play all day. I got all the attention I need...and I love where it's coming from.

I find it so silly to think that by someone proposing at MY wedding, then they are stealing my thunder-
....OBVIOUSLY its my & DH's day-that goes without saying.
I think if someone makes an announcement-proposal-whatever-
I would be more than happy to be able to give them the opportunity at my wedding.
For someone to say "it's MY day-it's ALL about ME" sounds so insecure and childish IMO

I was at a wedding on my birthday. I wouldn't expect the bride & groom to announce it was my birthday. It was their wedding. It's not like I'm 6 years old & waited all year for it.
I'm getting married on a good friend's birthday. We've known eachother since we were babies. I felt a little awkward about it first, but August is such a popular month that every weekend is someone's birthday (including my own). We didn't really have a choice with my law school schedule, so 8/17 it is!
I don't plan to announce that it's her birthday (nor does she expect me to) but I might do something special for her anyway... like a birthday corsage or have the waiter bring out her piece of wedding cake with a candle in it.
