Spinoff to all the "announcement" spinoffs

NONE of that bothers me.

I had birthday and anniversaries announced at my wedding along with the toast.

I am planning my uncle's wife's surprise 40th birthday party ON my birthday.

If someone would have wanted to get down on bended knee at my wedding, how could I possibly be upset?! we are already celebrating LOVE...there is room enough in my parade for everyone.

It never occurred to be that someone could steal my thunder....I thik that my friends and family have room in their hearts to feel happiness for me and someone else at the same time. I just don't see how it diminishes from my moment. It's still MINE. no one can take that.

that being said, I also would not have cared ONE BIT if I would have seen another bride on my day (I did in fact, in the parking lot after the reception when we were leaving....they were DRUNK off their asses and we all congratulated each other Chat Icon) It's MY day b/c it's MINE...not b/c it's not anyone elses either.

I guess I just don't understand WHY some people find it so heinous....I mean, if it's done to INTENTIONALLY try to take something away from the event, that's one thing. BUT, if it's genuine, and done out of excitement...the whole family being their already....whathaveyou...

nah...I just can't get upset about it.

Re: Spinoff to all the "announcement" spinoffs

you are a better person than i!

but i DID take a picture with another bride on my wedding day, and THAT was awesome

i just wanted ONE day for US. we celebrate my birthday on christmas, i NEVER had a party outside of my house

We both have those siblings that manage to get ALL the attention - both of our brothers are the "golden child" etc. It was the one day for US and it was great. Just that ONE DAY.

I didn't care that our engagement dinner became all about my gorgeous brand new nephew. I didn't care that my shower was all about my perfect baby niece. Just on my wedding day I wanted to be selfish and I was I guess! Chat Icon

I just think it is riduculous for someone else to get engaged at a wediing. That, to ME is tacky and classless....the wedding day is about the bride and groom, period...call me a witch, but that is how I feel. Chat Icon

i totally agree with you! i feel the same way about the situation.. out of 365 days out of the year.. why would they HAVE to pick the date of the wedding.. its just tacky to me

Ophelia, I completely agree with you. I didn't see my wedding as MY DAY only, its a day for me to celebrate. But anyting else that deserved celebrating should be there too. Anyone else's happiness only added to my own joy, not took it away. And as long as Dh's eyes were looking at me with that look of love and excitement, I didn't care about anyone elses.

Let's start a brethern then.

Get engaged whatever day you want. At the event itself is not appropriate in my opinion. There is no reason why someone can't wait the 5 hour span to ask someone to marry them.

I was at a wedding on my birthday. I wouldn't expect the bride & groom to announce it was my birthday. It was their wedding. It's not like I'm 6 years old & waited all year for it.

Like I said in the other post, I couldn't care less whether or not I was the ABSOLUTE center of attention at my wedding... I JUST married my best friend.

you could kick puppies in front of me and it wouldn't have deterred me from my happiness.

luckily, no puppies were harmed at my wedding.

first of all...I EFFING HATE THE WORD TACKY.

I have since my LIW days.

ok...moving along.

the way I am thinking about it, the dude wouldn't just *decide* hey, today I am going to steal Jane & John's thunder by proposing to Sandy during the spotlight dance.

I *imagine* that this is something the B & G would know about and be involved in.

if it's not..well then, THAT is the something different I am thinking of. the maliciousness that is NOT cool no matter what.

I guess I am of the mind that NO ONE cares more about my wedding day than me (and maybe my dh Chat Icon ) so as long as we are *THERE* in the ONLY US zone, it's all good.

b/c let's face it...there's A LOT of stuff being discussed when family gets together that DOES NOT center around the B & G...if Suzie is preggo, everyone will know whether your like it or not...b/c once aunt Tillie, finds out, it travels like a wildfire. KWIM???

I guess it's the bubble bursting. the day is ONLY all about you to YOU in reality.

so it's up to YOU whether you allow someone else to steal your day away.

Re: Spinoff to all the "announcement" spinoffs

I'll say yet again what I said on the other thread...

A wedding day is a very special and meaningful day in someone's life - it is probably the most memorable day for me personally, so far. Because of that - I feel it deserves its own day... It is THAT special.

Same thing goes for the day someone gets engaged - another really memorable day for me... I think everyone here can remember exactly when they got engaged and what happened that day... It is so special and also deserves it's own day.

There are 365 days in a year - we can put aside TWO for each of these events! They don't have to overlap - we are not THAT pressed for time. Chat Icon

i respectfully disagree LOL

there are SOME people in my family that could SNEEZE and it would be a bigger deal than anything I could manage to do - even if it were open heart surgery.

Great example: at my wedding, my BIL flirted with every single girl there in front of his wife and entire family. The day after we got married that was ALL anyone could talk about AND it continued until after the wedding.

If my brother announced at my wedding that he was getting a new job - my mom would actually ask me to STOP my wedding so we could go out and celebrate THAT, JUST because it was my brother

so its not just about the B&G and their perception of the day -it is also about how the guests would react

I was so lit at my wedding, someone could have announced they were pregnant, getting married and getting divorced on their birthday and I wouldn't have cared.

no my love...you are simply proving my point. this stuff goes on in any family. it is still YOUR day and will be until death do you part.

you can't control the attention-whoring of anyone. unannounced things can get just as much attention as big productions, b/c the guests are focused on themselves and those around them as much as they are on you.

I mean, how many nanoseconds did you spend with the guests at your wedding...what did they do for the other 4 hours 59 minutes and 59.99999 seconds after you can around to say thank you. they have to entertain themselves somehow Chat Icon Chat Icon

but my lovely ~, you were are and ever shall be the BRIDE to your dh. no one can take that away from you. and THAT is what makes it your day.

i know you did

you don't care what you post - nor do i care what i post

IMO, this is another case of someone taking a topic that has been beaten to death, starting a new thread, and basically saying "look at me! look at me! - I have an opinion too - and I'm going put the spotlight on me, by starting my own thread"

Is it OK with me? - doesn't really matter - you'll do what you'll do anyway - just like i'll do what i'll do.

so would that logic also apply to someone who posts on a "look at me" thread??

you are absolutely right Sherlock. I did want everyone to see my opinion. b/c it was NOT the norm. and I wanted to hear all sides. your powers of deduction boggle the mind. Chat Icon

I could have posted anything if I just wanted attention. Naked men would have done the trick.
