according to my friend jessica - NO, it is *NOT* a movie for anyone under the age of i would say 18 -- 16 is pushing it.

I didn't have the attention span for it.... your DD is bright and it will open up a WORLD of questions - if you're not ready to spend a few hours discussing things with her, I would wait to let her see it!

from blood diamond?
that movie was very thought provoking and made you think twice when buying diamonds. the first 10-15 mins was pretty violent but other than that it wasnt any worse to me than any other kind of movie. great flick! definitely watch it Chris!

i guess b/c of the violence??
she also was very bothered by films like saving private ryan and stuff so i'm guessing b/c of the violence - i know myself too well - i can't watch that stuff or i get really upset - the violence, meaning.

This is what gave me nightbares. The movie is set against the backdrop of civil war and chaos in 1990's Sierra Leone. Its a time where parents are separated from theri children. Those who can mine are sent to work. Those who can't, are killed. Children are turned into soliders (its true, my mom's elementary school had several former soldiers- they were 10!!!!!) and told their parents abandoned them. Men are murdered over diamonds and war. Its so sad.  FM me if you have more questions.
There are some very disturbing scenes in it, especially for children. How they "pursuade" the children to become soldiers. Its disgusting, and worse- its true.

I was thinking the same thing. It certainly didn't give me nightmares, but it was definitely an eye opener to the who diamond trade and what really goes on.
Definitely thought provoking, though my husband  through the whole thing.

Its a great movie- just not for anyone who is too young to understand whats going on. Yes, its violent, but it is an outstanding movie.

ok....so dh and I watched it last night (NOT DD)
That movie has had such a profound effect on me, that I will NEVER EVER EVER buy another diamond, unless i know that it is Conflict Free!!!!
