what is wrong with giving a thank you?

so i found a dog running all over my street today. DH and i went out and eventually caught him. he was very friendly so we put him in our yard. mind you i don't like dogs at all--i'm pretty scared of them. luckily he had a phone number on the collar. so i called--the woman who answered the phone didn't realize the dog was missing. she didn't say anything except that her husband would come and get him.

so the husband comes. i shake his hand and introduce myself (they live a block away) and he grabbed the dog and left.

no thank you whatsoever.

now granted, i caught the dog so he wouldn't get hurt or lost. i didn't catch him to get a thank you. but if someone found my cat i would be thanking them profusely, especially now at christmastime. even a smile would have been nice.

i just don't understand some people. i know i did a good thing, but why am i left feeling this way?

i have had this happen several times - i have picked up dogs that i saw almost get hit by cars - running on main roads - i have gotten out and risked MY life to get them and people won't even say thank you.

one time - i took the dog all over the neighborhood knocking on doors b/c it had no collar with a tag but obviously belonged to someone - so, i finally took it to a vet to see if it had a chip - no chip but it did have an electric collar that was apparently broken - so, the vet office went out of their way to call the company and see if that collar, with serial number on it, was registered to anyone - it was and, after an HOUR, they called the owner who seemed ANNOYED to even be called regarding the dog!!!

i was so upset - i spent like three hours of my time between finding it, knocking on doors and then the time spent at the vet - then, i waited with the dog until the owner came just to make sure otherwise i would have taken it home - the owner comes and basically just took the dog - didn't even ASK about the ordeal - how i found her - what happened - nothing - she gave me her biz card and said "if you see her again just call the cell directly so i don't have to come ALL the way to the vet office"



so - i DEFINITELY feel your pain - and i'm so very sorry - people are so inconsiderate!

Both those stories shock me. SOme people are just so rude! They dont even deserve the pet if they can care less that its roaming the neighborhood.

I have a neighbor like that, the dogs just walks all over the neighborhood. I tried to catch him one time but he growled at me and he was a little too big for my liking. Its so annoying

OMG - that is just shocking - both stories. I would be more then grateful if anyone ever found my pet and went of their way for her. That just probably shows how much they care about their poor animals!

The owner is a loser. Next time you see the dog running loose call animal control and they will contact owner. They will have to pay redemption fee..that might teach them to keep the dog safe because one day you may see it lying on the street..such loser owners..pathetic.

That is terrible. I get the feeling they could care less about their dog and that was why you got no thank you. How terrible really. You still did the right thing so try to keep that in mind.

I'm sorry your neighbor is such a jerk! Because I've helped total strangers with things a lot, I've come across this many times.

Every once in a while though, I come across someone who is so floored by my generosity that it makes me forget about all the other ungrateful people.

I once found an African Grey parrot in a shrub outside my house. He said hello to me. We brought him inside and cared for him, my husband stayed home from work the next day to call around, see if we could find his owner, or get him to a safe shelter.

When we found the owner hadn't picked him up yet, we made flyers with his picture and the shelter's information on it and our own cellphone number for when they were closed. We spent hours putting them around, asking storekeepers to put them in their windows too. We gave the shelter our information too, and checked in periodically.

Finally, the owner found him at the shelter. Although neither he or the shelter thanked us, we were told that he was very happy to have his parrot back.

If that were my dog, I'd be kissing your feet. I'm sorry they were so ungrateful.
