Re: Capital One CC Holders - Check your statements carefully
I also never carry a balance so I might not have noticed if they raised it. I will check when I get my statement. Thanks for posting this.

Re: Capital One CC Holders - Check your statements carefully
Ok, I do not have a problem with the interest rate. I checked & mine has not been raised. However, you mentioned them reporting your credit limit wrong... that's happening to me too! My credit report said that I have used 80% of my credit... I had a $100 balance on my card! $100 is certainly NOT 80% of my card! It was reporting my limit exactly as what my balance was the month before & since I rarely carry a balance of more than a couple hundred dollars, that's NOT good! Two credit reports have showed my limit waaaay lower than it is! It's screwing up my credit score & I'm going to have a problem getting another card if I want one because they are reporting that I am using much more of my available credit than I am.
Did they offer you any way to fix the problem? I was never able to get a straight answer. You just reminded me that I need to start harrassing them again.

Re: Capital One CC Holders - Check your statements carefully
I canceled my Capital One CC a few months ago because I cannot stand the way they do business! We hadn't used our card in over a year and because we hadn't made any charges they charged us an annual fee. That was bad enough - the worst part was they never sent a bill so the annual fee went unpaid for serveral months and ended up going into collections! I only found out because I got a call from a collection agency!!!!
They refused to remove the charge and fees and up'ed our rate to 26%
Granted I should be more diligent about checking my cards with zero balances online, but they should have sent a bill! I was soooooo furious!
I am not a fan of Capital One - they will NEVER be in my wallet!

Re: Capital One CC Holders - Check your statements carefully
I had the same thing happen a year or so ago. They said it was an increase "across the board" to their clients. I cancelled them immediately after that even though I had their card almost 10 years. I constantly watch the interest now.
Hi by the way! I'm new!

Re: Capital One CC Holders - Check your statements carefully
Being late on a credit type account can effect you as well ....
any change of terms to an account, you have a chance to no agree to new terms which will close your account at the current rules/regulations....
if you got something and let it go right by, its you. They have to tell you why it increased...
I use to work in credit cards (chase for 6 years) so any questions, feel free to ask...

Re: Capital One CC Holders - Check your statements carefully
The issue is not just capital one-its alot of cards-the problem is the rate that banks lend each other money-its higher so the rate of carrying a balance goe sup too. Thats what Discover told us-we have auto bill pay and never been late-luckily we have a set balance transfer rate of 3.99 for life of balance.

As I said in my original post, we were NEVER, EVER in the entire time we have had that card late with a single payment AND the customer service rep with whom my DH spoke assured us of that -- AND assured us that the increase has nothing to do with us. It's possible any letter mailed to us was mailed when we were changing our address / moving and hasn't been forwarded to us, yet, but the bottom line is that we were told it was an across the board increase, and we were specifically told it has nothing to do with us. Apparently, they kept reiterating that over and over... That's the best they can do for long-time, very good customers apparently. *shrug* Their loss.
DH told them that we're canceling the card ASAP and it has everything to do with them.
ETA - It seems at least one other person in this post got a similar letter, so actually, it's NOT us in this case. It's them. I'm familiar with what can happen when you make a late payment. We never have.

i was making just a general comment...
at times, they want to get rid of accounts so they will change the terms.. prehaps a certain card, or portfolio isn't doing well and rather keep it at a low rate, they want to rid them....
i would go to freeannualcreditreport and check to make sure everything is in order with your credit.
Now that i read the full post, the bank in question did this to me too but this is years ago... I said thanks, needed to get rid of a card anyway...

Re: Capital One CC Holders - Check your statements carefully
All credit cards do that!!! They can change your interest rate at any time for no reason at all. They can change your interest rate if your late on a completely different credit card with another bank. CC companies will do anything to make money off of you!

Re: Capital One CC Holders - Check your statements carefully
Hmmm, mine is 19.80% as well, btu ti was that one year ago as well. I just checked the statements. But this is a good point. I use an online bill pay service and don't ever look at my statements unless I think the amount due is off. Capital One has always seemed to have the highest rates. CCs are horrible and I wish I could just get rid of all of mine.

Re: Capital One CC Holders - Check your statements carefully
I use to work for them. I do know that they phase out customers who are costing them more to maintain their account then what they are making off them.
If you use the card a lot, they will keep you on. If it is a card that you randomly use, they might want to phase you out. If you never get charged any fees, don't have an annual membership fee, and never pay interest...they are losing out...it is costing them money to mail out your statements or taking your calls regarding the account.

Re: Capital One CC Holders - Check your statements carefully
CC companys are very strange. Something similiar happened to me with my Amex account. I have good credit, always payed on time. So I pay the card off in full and the next billing statement they lowered my available credit. I was like ***, so I call them and they tell me since I payed them off the balance to protect themselves they lowered my available credit. I said hello you got your money from me, Im not deliquent, apparantly its to cover themselves from other credit card holders. unreal, I fought with them tooth and nail b/c I was afraid it was going to hurt my credit score. It didnt but I HATE Amex- in fact havent used them- I kept the account open b/c they say never close an account. Your credit score goes up when you show no balances.
