Wow, that's good to know, and scary! I have a Capital One card too, but never carry a balance so I am embarrassed to say I don't even know my rate.

Dec. 1 is my payment due date.

Thats when they will get their FULL balance I owe & I will close out my account.

nasty. This happened to me with chase. I paid it off.

I carry two with 0% right now and they are slated for payoff when the promo ends.

That blows...

I just looked and it's still 10.58%. I will keep an eye on this though and close out this account as soon as it goes any higher. Thanks for the info as this is not my fav credit card. I had a problem in the pat with my APR being too high. I fought with them tooth and nail because i have excellent credit, threatened to cancel my account and they lowered it. So needless to say if they raise it one tiny bit i am closing this account

very weird, and I would ask them about it. I'm not sure if this matters, but we pay our balance in full every month. so it wouldn't matter if our interest rate went up... maybe they raised it for those who carry a blanace?

WAMU recently did the same thing to me.. and when I called they told me there was nothing they could do... Had the card for years but I threw it out!

Same thing happened to me as well. You will also have a nice surprise of paying finance charges for the next cycle because the "pay off" amount is not correct and you have to have 2 months of a zero balance not to have to pay a final finance charge. I did end up getting back because of the point of it.

I closed me account IMMEDIATELY as well because of this. The operation is a scam and they do it with all those "promotion" accounts.

I actually remember that they always reported the limit as the last high balance...awful!! I cancelled that card a while back. I found out on creditboards.com that is what they do..

It's terrible b.c it makes your utilization much higer than it is. If they say your limit is $398, and you have a $300 balance it appears as you though you are close to maxing out.

They actually call them crapital one. Lol.

We RARELY (as in basically never) carry a balance. This was the first time in a while we didn't pay it in full (or down to a very nominal amount...) But I am guessing you are right and they were targeting the people who are carrying a balance those months.

Capital one stinks. I actually paid mine off and moved on to another card.

That's really weird. They are still very low for me (8%). I've had this card forever and always carry a low balance on it.

My only problem with them is that they won't change my due date. I changed all of my other ones, but this one won't change. I like to pay all the bills at one time, and this one is off schedule.
