Pre Approval for Mortgages.
Where did you go to get preapproved?
Where did you get your mortgage from? How did you chose the place????

Re: Pre Approval for Mortgages.
We went to our bank for our pre-approval. But the wording the woman used was a little funky when we put our offer in first and the broker wouldn't accept it. So we had a friend who is a mortgage broker do the pre-approval for us in 15 minutes and that was accepted.
We ultimately went with our bank (Bethpage Federal Credit Union) for our mortgage because not only were the rates better than anyone else's, the closing costs were $5000 cheaper!

Re: Pre Approval for Mortgages.
I really like Wells Fargo and Bank of America.
But you can also go to your local bank.

We went with HSBC! We were very happy with them and their customer service up in Buffalo (where the mortgages were written for us) were always there to answer any questions we had!

Yes, you can. We shopped around 3 local banks and were happiest with HSBC.
You can try WAMU as well, along with Citibank. See who has the best interest rates and if they have any enticing deals for anyone needing a mortgage.

I also used a really great broker, and a couple of people from the boards have used him also and were very happy with him. He educated us and was not pushy. If you want his info let me know.

Re: Pre Approval for Mortgages.
you can get a an approval from anybody you want...best bet is to go to the people you bank with for the letter since you already have a relationship with them.
HOWEVER, when you've found the house you want and are fully under contract thats when you shop around for the best rate. alot of people think they HAVE to stick with the person they got approved from. not true. its in your best interest to get as many rate quotes as possible, that way you can play them against each other.
kathleen, you're a teacher right? if you're in a credit union i would suggest going to them first. CU usually offer the lowest rates. good luck!

Yes go to different banks, sit w/ them & see which gives you the best rate. BofA had a program w/ no closing costs (you pay some, but about 4k less than other banks)..but we had our own issues w/ them....as did some other girls on here
Start w/ the bank you bank w/, or like alnem suggested, your credit union.
