What are my chances for jury duty....
On telephone standby for this week. My number is over 2000. The numbers for Monday are 001-436.
Is it looking good for me??? Do they ever skip numbers???

Whenever we have jury duty my mom says...don't get too excited, they always skip numbers! So maybe you have a chance!!!!

400 a day, 5 day week, and the numbers usually get less as the week goes by (300 something by Wednesday, maybe 200 Thursday and Friday). It's hard to tell, but over 2000 probably means you won't be called.

i was on standby a couple of weeks ago... they seemed to call in number order and didn't even go through 1,000 numbers. i was bummed, i so wanted to get called.

not sure of the numbers, but have hope! a fellow teacher in my building had jury duty for 2 weeks... a murder trial! she loved it!!

i was just on jury duty for like 13 days on a case. my number was 683 i was called on the second day of the week they call over 600 numbers a day so it is a good chance depending on the week they have. by the end of the week they call less people.
jury duty isnt easy. thank god that is over for another 8 years now since the trial went for so long.
hope you dont get called!!!!

I was number 1482 in Nassau last week and had to appear on Thursday. Chances are okay that you won't have to appear at all... but it will depend on the case load that week.

It's REALLY not that big of a deal or that huge of an inconvenience. I'd love to be on a jury, but I was dismissed this time without even being called. I just read a book and did some work. If you're in Nassau Co (don't know about suffolk), they have computers available with internet access. They also have free wireless access so you can bring a laptop and surf the web all day if you want to.
It's not nearly as awful as it used to be. They really do try to get you out as quickly as possible, too. I was there not even a full day and don't have to go back for 6 years. I almost asked if I could volunteer to come back the next day b/c I never got called.

When I got a notice a few months ago, I think my number was 1900 something. I wasn't called. I remember one day they called over 700 people, and I was sure I was going to end up having to go.

I had it back in March/April, and it was during Passover week. They didn't call any numbers all week, it was awesome. I was like 100, so I would have been called. Finally on Thursday, it said we were dismissed and didn't have to keep calling back.

(I was driving for *only* about 7 years...  ) 2nd time was for a divorce case. I was on the jury, so we had to come in the next day. Next day, we got sent home early PM since they couldn't get a judge in Riverhead. Next day, had to go to Smithtown, I think. Got sent home early because they finally decided to settle out-of-court.
I'm not comfortable with judging someone else (I mean, I do sometimes, but they don't go to jail if I don't like what they do...  too bad, sometimes....)

How do you know WHY they dismissed you? This isn't something the lawyers usually tell people...

From the questions they asked me, and their expressions with the answers I gave. Lawyers aren't good poker players (at least the ones that day).... They kept focusing on my age, and how long I was driving, etc. Wasn't too hard to figure out where they were going. I could see where they were going with several of the other potential jurors, too.
