Would you buy it?
We have a tiny little savings account. We call it our boat fund b/c in the end, we want to buy a boat. Any monetary gifts go into it. Bday, anniversary, stuff like that. So far, it's been used for a new computer and bedroom furniture. Now, DH wants to buy a new tv. A 42" LCD. Now, I love my tv just as much as the next person. We have some extra money but to pay for the whole thing, we'd have to use pretty much what's left in the boat fund. I don't mind either way...I like the tv we have now and a bigger screenwould be great. We wouldn't move the other tv into the bedroom b/c I'm not for tv's in the bedroom unless you're home sick and stuck in bed. We're not buying a boat anytime soon, so we still could save up...that's not a problem. I guess I'm just nervous about having only a few bucks in our fun account. Do we live for the moment and buy it or do we pass? It's my choice, and I'm torn.
Any input?

Re: Would you buy it?
Personally, I would probably skip it if it wasn't a "planned" or "necessary" purchase (for instance, your current tv stopped working). Otherwise, you could always justify using the money from the fund for spur of the moment stuff, and it would be more of a challenge to get the boat in the end.
Maybe what you could do is agree to get the TV once the account reaches a set amount so you don't completely deplete it?

Re: Would you buy it?
What would you do w/the other tv? Is there anything else you would rather have for the house? a fire place, pool, jacuzzi., jet ski...... these are probably close to the prices of the tv...(3000 range) and your tv still works.... If DH wanted really bad, I would say yes....... but I have a feeling if you thought about possible alternatives, you both might want to spend it elsewhere...GL, Enjoy whatever you choose......

I wouldn't....
To me, a TV is a TV... I would probably keep saving the money or get something really cool and different for the house....

I would buy it. I love having new gadgets, and to be honest, you said it yourself, the boat fund aint happening that soon.

Re: Would you buy it?
I would skip the tv personally. If you have a tv and it works great, then why bother replacing it. I am sure you could always buy that TV. If you have alittle bit of money in the bank, I would keep it there for more important things

I agree!!!
Honestly- if its "fun money" anyway, then its totally worth it.
I thought I would have buyers remorse when after we bought ours, but i NEVER did... iw as too in love with it to feel any guilt
i love it... really. Especially since i dont get to go out as much as i used to--- we pretend we have our own little movie theater at home.

Re: Would you buy it?
You said it's a fun money account, right? And you've used it before for unnecessary purchases so if you both want the TV - get it. If the boat isn't happening anytime soon and you guys have a regular savings...go for the TV - You only live once!

Depends on the boat. I'd like 8-10K for the boat. While I agree with the common sense you don't need it input, I also appreciate the it's fun money, enjoy it input too. We own an apartment, so it's not like we need a new water heater or spa tub, you know? I'm thinkin' we may do it. I've always been ultra responsible, but I see that you do need to live a little, too.
Thanks for the pov's!

I agree also.
On another note, it's not like your getting a car or something. 42" lcd/plasmas aren't going for that much these days anyway, so you'll save that money back in no time.
You only live once. Enjoy!

Re: Would you buy it?
If you plan on spending $8-10K on a boat, and the TV you want is a couple thou....I would skip the TV and keep saving for the boat.
