Need ideas...
I am going to visit my friends tomorrow who are brand new parents. I'd like to bring something that can help them out in some way. I am thinking food-related-- any meal that they don't have to make/order-in I think is a good idea.
I want something that is not particularly perishable and something that is also easy to store.
Any thoughts?

thanks for the idea-- I have never heard of that. They live in Brooklyn-- and I want something that I can easily pick up before going over there tomorrow-- I'm right outside of Manhattan.

Basked Ziti or Lasagna, get a big tray. They can eat it for days, it stores well, and they can even freeze some of it. Baked ziti is my standard new parents delivery, along with fresh bread and a package of ceasar salad. Its even super simple to make instead of buy if you would like.

I know they sell frozen trays in the supermarket, like Stouffers. You can also just cook the macaroni and assemble the rest and deliver it to them liek that. Then all they need to do it put in the oven, and the houses gets a yummy homecooked smell.
Otherwise you could try a local catering place, like I know Valley catering in Valley Stream sells them at the store, but I know that's not where you are. Other than that I can't help with other specific places (I live in Las Vegas now)

I'm not sure if you're near a BJs, but in the freezer section they have this, as well as some other trays of food.

Why not a giftcard to a local restaurant that delivers or to peapod?
Either that or some frozen entrees. THey sell them in supermarkets. Prepared meals are a new parent's best friend

I guess it doesn't take that long to just put it together.. If I can send DH to the supermarket I can make it early tomorrow AM I guess-- I don;t have to bake it all.

Go to Costco or BJ's they have a ton of prepared food. Any pasta dish can be frozen. Another cute idea is make up a basket with a bottle of wine, pasta and good sauce(Rao's is pretty good) and Maybe a loaf of bread they can have an easy pasta dinner-throw in a candle!
