Re: Spinoff to Abortion Issue

I am totally prochoice! I think it's a great option for a rape victim. I also think it's great that it's available to someone like me, who's a responsible adult who takes their BCP religiously. I'm not being careless, I am with my SO.
However, I am against abortions as a form of birth control to someone who is careless with themselves. I had an old friend from highschool (who passed away the summer we graduated from drug use, god bless her) She started to hang with the wrong crowd obviously we parted ways and I remained close with her sister and she told me that my old friend had a total of 6 abortions when we were in highschool. That is what I am against. That is taking total abuse of something that helps a rape victim, someone who does do the right thing, someone who is terminally ill and has to abort because of it.

I thought I remember having sex education in 5th grade but I think it was very simplistic and left out a lot of things. I remember having more in 7th grade but sadly for some of these kids, it may be too late for them.

Funny...i kinda remember that too! For some reason i think it had to do with drugs/aids not directly sex. They just kinda said "DONT DO IT" so I didnt...haha Chat Icon Chat Icon

a little off the topic - but I think Pro choicers (myself included) need to start referring to Pro-Lifers as Anti-Choice people.

I'm completely pro-choice and I dont see how that doesnt also make me Pro-life. I'm not a fan of abortion - I'm all for women's lives, children's lives - but first and foremost it's a CHOICE that's between a woman and her doctor.

It's hard to win the game of semantics when one side has the ultra powerful name of Pro-Life, suggesting that anyone who disagrees is Anti-Life.

Call them Anti-Choicers!

In my honest opinion, your response is not a very respectful one. I don't refer to you as a "them". I love the term pro-life and preferred to be called that Chat Icon

If i agree with not terminating a life...or a "potential life"...this makes me pro life. And I don't believe pro-choice denotes anything negative...it means you believe in a womans right to choose to abort. Which is what you believe, and you are entitled to believe that. I don't attack your title, please do not attack mine.

A baby, fetus, whatever label people attach to it ...has NO voice. No way of fending for themselves. The very essence of their birth depends on the mother. You believe she should be able to stop that life from existing and I believe we are put on this earth to protect our own from the beginning...I'm not a religious zealout, a bible beater nor am I an fanatic. This is my morality and please do not label me as anti-choice. There are other choices in this world..adoption...carrying to term...I don't believe abortion needs to be one of them. I guess i'm done speaking on this matter, I thought the post started intelligently with everyone LISTENING and maybe learning just a little something without judging...I'm not here to change any minds, just to shed some light on my viewpoints and maybe how someone can understand where I'm coming from, even if they do not agree.

I don't agree with women using it as a form of birth control, which can happen)I have to say, BUT I am pro-choice, because having to go thru an abortion procedure is something that the person involved needs to deal with. Not the 65 year old good old boy Representative in Washington, D.C. who really, at the end of the day, doesn't care about what happens to those who have to make this decision.

When the government starts telling us what to do with our bodies, it just gets one step closer to controlling more and more of us.

Abortion is not an easy decision...during a time in my life when I was not making the best choices and running around without any care or concern for myself, I got pregnant and had an abortion. It was the hardest decision I've ever made in my life, and I have to live with that every day of my life. Whenever I fill out medical forms, I have to list it in my history, I have to think about how old my child would have been. It was MY choice because I knew I would have not have cared for that child properly, because I was into drugs and alcohol and by the time I realized I was pregnant, I had probably already damaged the fetus. You can think whatever you want about me and say I'm evil and going to hell, but I know how hard it was to do what I did...and no one but myself has to deal with it.

What a brave post!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am pro choice in all instances. I do not make a distinction between the circumstances that led to the choice to abort.

I know a couple of women who had 4+ abortions. One of them was told that she probably would not be able to conceive again after one of her abortions. She has 3 kids though (and had another abortion after #3). She was not at least mid 20's at the time of the last abortion so not a teenager. The other is getting engaged soon and wants to have 2 - 3 kids. Her doctor seems to think she will have no trouble conceiving.

It still amazes me that women even had to fight for the right to control their own reproductive system. It seems like a basic human right to be able to decide what happens inside your own body.

If men were able to conceive then I seriously doubt their would be an issue with abortion. It reminds me of that movie with Arnold & Danny DeVito where Arnold had a baby. Never could that happen but if men give a few minutes thought to that scenario I think the laws in this country would be very different.
