So....did I handle this correctly??

So, yesterday, my MIL calls and says she wants to buy us our travel system off of our registry since it hasn't been purchased yet. She told me she was ordering it as we speak. This is very generous of her, and I thanked her profusely. Plus DH is proud of her since she seems to figured out that we made the registry, not little elves at BRU (she seems to like to buy stuff herself).Chat Icon

So, today I go to get a pedicure with my mom and I mention this to her....and that as of now, it is not marked as purchased on my registry. She says that "someone" else wanted to buy it too, but hadn't yet. So, I told my mom to just tell that person to buy the EXACT one on my registry and since MIL's will come to the house, and the other person is coming to the shower, NO ONE will ever know (well, except her, me, DH and all of you wonderful ladiesChat Icon ) and we will just return one.

But I feel kind of bad...should I?

Why go through the trouble of having someone buy it and you having to return it. I would just remove it off the registry honestly..they can pick something else. Not trying to be mean at all..but this is where the "if you are slow..you blow" comes in. LOL! I'm sure they know things fly off the list...so you really shouldn't feel bad.

I wouldn't remove it b/c I don't know that MIL bought it and it is something we NEED. She can be a little bizarre with gifts (see my PNP drama) if it shows up as purchased before the other person buys it, that will settle that tho....

HA. The you're slow thing doesn't seem to apply to our people, I am 37 weeks, have been registered since about 16 or 17 and my shower is Saturday and there is still PLENTY left on there

Re: So....did I handle this correctly??

Its up to you. Do you think what that the moms friend wont spend as much if its gone already? Is there any other big ticket items your mom can push her towards?

What do you really want to happen?

ETA- Now your second response makes the situation more understandable....Back to the pure craziness of MIL>

Can DH ask her about it? Say that your mom told him a friend was getting the travel system, but that MIL said she wanted to, and he checked registry, its still there, whats the deal?

I am having PNP flashbacks here....Chat Icon

I wouldn't do that because then you are stuck having to return it but I see why you would do that too. I say leave it on the registry and may the best man win! There are plenty of other stuff to be bought on there I'm sure!

I would leave it on (like you said since your are not sure if she even bought it yet) and then if you do end up getting two. I wouldnt tell your MIL that you are returning hers though b/c if she is anything like mine she will be very upset that you are returning something that she gave you.

Re: So....did I handle this correctly??

Honestly, given the PNP drama I would let a dupe be made & then send DH to exchange it if there is a big ticket item left on the registry.

Honestly, I think it is my sister who is trying to buy it, but she probably has to wait until she gets paid tomorrow to buy it.

My MIL is nutty. Maybe I will have DH ask her if she bought it from another site for cheaper and if that is the case, to send him the tracking info and we will take it off the registry.

Personally, I don't care WHO buys the darn thing and if I have to return it, I will. Considering that I still have to return the pnp from my registry since Target wouldn't take back the one MIL sent me
