Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
We can't afford where I grew up (commack) and don't want to live where DH grew up (upstate).

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
I am in the process of buying a house in my hometown West Islip, but I only want to stay about 2 years and then move near my DH hometown. He grew up in Oakdale and I would love to move to Bohemia in an older Tudor home.

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
We did! I love it because both sets of parents live within 1 1/2 miles of us. Also, our children will be attending the same Catholic elementary school that my DH went to.
Honestly, it was not easy for us financially to be able to afford to stay in this part of Queens, but am very happy with our decision.

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
I would, in a heartbeat, buy a home ont he same street I grew up on. But I don't want to live that close to my parents! And DH and I both want to live on the South shore- we grew up in Lake Ronkonkoma. He went to Sachem, I went to Middle Country.

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
We didn't want to buy where I grew up (West Bab) and looked in Dix Hills where DH grew up but we couldn't find anything we could afford. We ended up in a town pretty close to Dix Hills though.

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
No I wouldn't want too either, the area where I grew up has changed too much and I don't think for the better. DH and I live on Staten Island now but we are looking to move to either Massapequa, Babylon or West Islip.

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
We're about a minute from DH's parent's house....not where he grew up exactly...but he spent a good part of his life there.
We're pretty far from where I grew up.

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
I would LOVE to move to where I grew up in NJ. It probably won't happen. DH would love to buy where he grew up, but the area is changing and I'm not entirely sure I want to buy there.

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
We dont live in either of the towns we grew up in - and i dont think i would want to. My hometown is too far from NYC and his hometown is too big and impersonal.

Re: Buying a home where you grew up?
I wish we could have, but it is too expensive. We did buy a house in the same town that DH grew up in, though.
