zantac - 6 week old

DD was just prescribed Zantac for reflux. She is on Alimentum for milk protein sensitivity and has definitely had some minor reflux issues since the beginning but over the past 10-14 days be begun throwing up entire bottles, has also been refusing bottles half way through. Our ped believes it is due to reflux so she prescribed .7ml 2x per day. She said that Alimentum is very thin and though it helps with gas and fussiness due to protein allergies, can make reflux worse.

Does anyone have experience with Zantac? We have been using it for 36 hours and I do think DD already seems better. No spit up at all, less fussy, slept better during the day yesterday though she did refuse two bottles half way through.

How long did you have to use it for?

B threw up entire bottle ALL the time. Like every other feeding. Our ped gastro didnt feel it was bad reflux because she wasnt fussy otherwise so they never gave her zantac. She would wake screaming with gas pains or because she spit up out of her nose. (after every feeding). They put her on axid though and wanted to take her off at 3 mo to see how she did. I took her off at 4.5 mo (weaned her down over a week or so) and so far so good. I just started a few days ago. They say that reflux corrects itself a lot of times once they can hold their upper bodies upright on their own. I was still giving her maalox though until this last round of bottle becasue I feel it helped. Im trying it without now since she doesnt spit up much now. It is a mild laxative and her poops were loose so I want to try without it.

Hey Karin,, John was on zantac and then we weaned him off at 6months.. best thing we did for him!!!

Also maybe take her to a Ped GI as a 2nd opinion in case she doesn't seem to be getting better. My nephew was on Alimentum also with Zantac and when my sis brought him to the Ped GI they found he had to be put on Elecare because of his MP allergy. He is doing a lot better now. Good luck!

Ds had silent reflux. He was on zantac three times a day. We weaned him at four months. It really helped him a lot.
