Your thoughts on Clomid?
The doctor gave me a prescription for it tonight. I have really long cycles suddenly the past 6 months (46 days). I seem to be ovulating but insanely late (around CD33). Is anyone taking this now or in the past that can offer some input (side effects, anything)? I am on the fence about filling it. **The doctor wrote the script for 50 mg
Some background info.....
27 years old Trying since August Have not been on BC for over 2 years Always had 28 day cycles Randomly started having 46 day cycles since June Good Health Thin/active Progesterone was slightly low Testosterone was elevated Doctor says my symptoms seem like PCOS but I seem atypical for it
Any input would be so great! Thanks in advance!

Re: Your thoughts on Clomid?
What testing has your doctor done? Have you had an HSG? Bloodwork done? Thyroid checked?
Assuming you have and that everything checked out ok, then starting Clomid will jump start your ovaries into ovulating.
I did not experience any side effects except for some bloating.

Re: Your thoughts on Clomid?
Thank you this is so good to know! I was tested for all of the above. Basically all signs point to PCOS bc of my hormone levels.

Re: Your thoughts on Clomid?
I don't understand why you would be "on the fence" about filling a prescription.
If you received a script then your dr. thinks you need it.

Re: Your thoughts on Clomid?
Well we have only been trying for 4 months...so I thought it might be a little soon. Plus, I ovulate on my own....just really late. I thought Clomid was for annovulatory cycles. I just feel like I don't know enough about it....so i'm just trying to research and get others opinions! Better to be informed I feel like....

It's never too soon. I didn't even try on my own I went right to the doctor.
But if they gave you a prescription they obviously think you would benefit from it. If you're in doubt call and ask your dr. more about it.

Re: Your thoughts on Clomid?
I obviously asked my doctor....however, the purpose of this forum is to have other opinions! That is the reason why we are all here! To help each other get through this phase and share our stories.

Re: Your thoughts on Clomid?
Clomid got me my DS
<----------------------------------------
My first question is , are you under the care oif an RE or is the script from your GYN ?
The reason I ask is because prior to being seen by an RE, my GYN put me on Clomid for 7 cycles with timed BD...I blindly trusted his judgement, never was monitored with sonograms , never had an HSG done ( to check that my tubes were clear), nothing !
Finally I decided something wasn't right and moved to an RE....Had my DS on my 3rd Clomid/IUI with them...
-Clomid has a drying effect on CM- Without an IUI there is a good chance I would have never conceived.
- Fortunately my tubes were clear, but if they were not, all the Clomid in the world would not have gotten me pregnant.
- Has your DH had a SA done ? Sometimes the issue isnt soley on the part of the woman..
- From what I have been told, Clomid should only be used for a maximum of 12 cycles because it "can' thin your lining out...I did not have any issues with my lining luckily...I would hate to have been on Clomid for a full year with the GYN for nothing, only to have been told that I could not be on it anymore Clomid didn't work to have my DD but at least I was able to try it for a few more cycles ...
In general, Clomid is the first and least invasive of all the treatments you can receive...With that being said, proper monitoring is very important ...
I have PCOS also..
Sorry to ramble, but I learned a very hard lesson and "wasted" almost a full year with my GYN and wish someone had given me some insight, so whenever I can pass on my experience I do...
Good Luck
ETA- Just saw that you did have an HSG done , so thats great !

Unfortunatley though, many Drs. are quick to just prescribe Clomid and send their paitents on their way.
To the OP: I replied to your thread on the pregnancy board, but will reply here as well.
Clomid didn't work for me, however you really need to be monitored on it. Clomid can skew OPK results and give you a positive when you really are not ovulating. Each cycle of Clomid I was on, whenever I took an OPK and it was positive, I would go to my RE and they would confirm via bloodwork and sono that I was nowhere near surging.
Most regular OB/GYN's will not monitor you on Clomid. They will give you the script and tell you to try for 3 months, if not pregnant, come back.
Also, have you had any bloodwork done to rule out PCOS or anyother issues?

She came here to pick the brains of others who have taken Clomid. Why not try to offer what your experience was?
To the OP: I did not have a problem with cm drying up.

Re: Your thoughts on Clomid?
I have PCO and my Dr put me on 100 mg of clomid. He did think that I was ovulating on my own, but he said he wanted to shorten my cycles a little. My cycles have always been about 30-33.

Re: Your thoughts on Clomid?
I didn't have any side effects on Clomid (50mg)....just a couple of hot flashes that didn't last long. But, I was given the prescription by my ob/gyn and not monitored. He also put me on estrogen and progesterone. My cylce was REALLY screwed up....lots og on and off spotting. Plus, I never really knew when I ovulated, because all of those things can mess up the opk reading. Once I went to see my RE, I brought him data on all of bleeding, etc. He told me that we couldn't really count that cycle. Then, (after a polypectomy) I had to start all over on the medication while being monitored. It has been much better and so much easier. Just my two cents and my experience.... Good luck!

Re: Your thoughts on Clomid?
i did 6 or 7 clomid cycles with 3 iui's. Unfortunately none resulted in a pregnancy. i did get hot flashes from it, usually after i stopped the med until i O'ed. no other side effects. GL! its worth giving it a shot, b/c if you are O'ing late than then can be an egg quality issue.
