I would like to think the same.

I definitely dont think Im going to be a screamer. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain.

Re: YOU in labor

You know I thought I was going to be really nervous and anxious but when I got there I was really calm like let's get this show on the road. Once the epi was in I watched TV for hours while my husband and sister slept. When it was time to push I was ready to go! The only time I got a little overwhelmed was right before the epi I couldn't stop shaking but that was better than I had expected as well.

Re: YOU in labor

Nope I was 100% different. I had this dream I would be chatty cathy and want a room full of people and I would read, listen to music, and just chill.......I wanted NOBODY in the room and when labor REALLy started I wanted quiet and to just breath. When it came time to push I was on amission and NOBODY was gonna stop me. I will say listen to the nurses. The thought of doing hands and knees was awful but once there it was so nice. The nurses can help so ask.

Edited to add: the epi was great, but I had back labor so it did nothing to help that. I was suprised by how slow it was going and then by how fast everything changed.

Re: YOU in labor

BTDT here.
I have to say I was better than I thought.
All I know is once I got that BLESSED epi all was great. I felt NOTHING.
I was chatting, joking, etc.
The nurse said I was her best patient of the day (which if you know me, I am NOT a good patient for anything!)
I was having huge contractions on the monitor and was just sitting there laughing and joking the whole time. Epidural=heaven!!

The only time I was screaming and yelling was at the end. The epi didn't help with the pain of pushing and tearing.
I was screaming like someone was murdering me at that point. It was embarrasing when I thought back on it...my OB must have thought I was insane. But it was the only way I could deal- so I screamed my head off.
The second her head came out- my DH said I stopped screaming immediately. He said it was like a mute button! Chat Icon
Luckily I had to push for less than an hour- so all in all it wasn't too bad!

I was almost exactly how I imagined I would be. I was calm on the outside, talking and joking with the nurses. On the inside I was a little anxious.
I knew I wouldn't scream, moan or cry, I dealt with the pain quietly.
However I could hear other women screaming and I was terrified the entire time. Chat Icon

Re: YOU in labor

It went down as expected-jokes and sarcasm flying, the doctor who delivered DS said she had a great time.

No yelling or drama. I had an epi, wore off and I was it pretty good amount of pain but still no screaming. I prefer to suffer in silenceChat Icon

Im so sarcastic, I joke around, etc.....

Not at the end. I was in no shape or mood to be joking. That ring of fire hurts!

I have no idea how I will be... I like to think that I will be easy going and what not but WHO KNOWS once those contractions start

Exactly how I feel. I keep thinking I will be so great and pleasant, and I hope I am, but we will see. I don't handle pain well at all, but when it comes to surgery or doctor's visits, for some reason I handle those very well, so hopefully I have a nice mix of the 2.

Re: YOU in labor

Hoenstly, if you're not the dramatic type, you're not suddenly going to have a personality transplant when you go into labor and start screaming and cursing and acting like you never have before -

It is painful, and it was pain that I had personally never experienced before - but I am a very reserved person - I'd DIE before I made a scene - I whimpered and cried considerably more than I normally would - but only to my DH -

And I asked repeatedly for the drugs - normal Marisa would have been embarassed to ask again after they told me the 1st time I had to 'wait' - I would have just sat until they decided it was ok for me to have it - Not 'in labor' Marisa, that version of me was a nag !! Chat Icon

Re: YOU in labor

Okay here is what I THOUGHT. I thought that in between contractions I would walk around, take my time getting to the hospital -- I REALLY wanted a natural birth. Then I THOUGHT that once the real labor began I would be screaming and crying.

What happened: My water broke at home and I HAD TO GET TO THE HOSPITAL. DH was getting my bag, going to take our dog to a friend's house and I just was so terrified and overwhelmed (NOT pain, just emotionally). I HAD to get to the hospital. I didn't talk, didn't do anything -- I walked slowly and deliberately everywhere, planning each step and action. I scared the poo out of my mom, since I usually don't shut up.

DH kept trying to talk to me, rub my back and I was just like PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH ME! I didnt want ANYTHING or ANYONE touching me.

Then, I got the epidural and I was awesome! I did not scream or yell or anything. I slept (never thought I would SLEEP) for 5 hours! Joked around, talked to everyone coming in, watched TV!

I pushed for three hours, but the whole time I was joking in between contractions, trying to make sure DH ate and drank, apologizing that it was taking so long Chat Icon

I was also more demanding than usual though. Every time someone came in and asked for a "time check" I would immediately tell them that I didnt want to know what time it was or how long i had been there (glad I did that)

After I had DD, one of the first things I said was YAYYYYYYY TEAM!!!! and gave out a couple of high 5s! Chat Icon I also told them GOOD JOB GUYS!!! YOU ALL DID GREAT!!!!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I had the room hysterical a lot! A few people said I was their best patient EVER! I kept telling everyone, I trust you - you can do this!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon hmm wonder what they slipped into my IV?!

While i was laboring at home and at the hospital before the epi, I would just stop talking and concentrate on the contractions. DH thought he was helping by talking me through it. I don't think i ever said "Shut the f*ck up" to someone more times in my life! Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon This cracked me up because when I was in labor, right before I got the epi, my DH and dad went to get something to eat and my sister was in the room with me. She kept showing me all these cute little games and things on her Ipad. And like you, everytime I had a contraction I'd stop talking.....but she kept talking!.......I wanted to tell her to STFU many times, but I didnt want to be meanChat Icon

Re: YOU in labor

i was surprisingly cool as a cucumber. im a pretty loud and dramatic person but there was none of that the day i went into labor.

contractions are like nothing you ever felt in your life. i was so focused on getting thru the pain ~ i couldnt yell, cry, talk or any of that. i basically just breathed and rocked until i got the epdiural. i took my epi @ 6 cm - i recommend getting it as early as possible. labor was a TOTALLY different experience after receiving it. after i got the epidural i just relaxed. i text some people and made phone calls telling friends i was having the baby ~ i even called a lady to come clean my apt! Chat Icon than when it was time to push i just listened to the nurse & my dh and before i knew it my beautiful son was born! Chat Icon

i say "expect" nothing. this way you cant upset yourself or be disappointed. this baby is coming no matter where you are, who is in the room, who is supporting you, etc. just try to make yourself as comfy as possible and make friends w/ your delivery nurse. i loved mine. she really helped me have that baby.

Re: YOU in labor

I have been in a bunch of deliveries and seen a lot of shows so I thought it would be a little frantic with moaning or screaming in pain at some point. But I was all business and remember every second. No moans or screams here! The most calm delivery ever! You wouldnt have known what was going on if your eyes were closed until DS cried. Even my Ob was proud!
