YOU in labor
How do you think you will react during labor?
For BTDT moms, did you react the way you thought you would or very differently?
I ask because I watch all these shows A Baby Story and One Born Every Minute and I don't picture myself as any of these women. I'm not a screamer, a moaner, or a crier...so I don't see myself being like that during labor. I more see myself sarcastically saying throughout labor "OW! That hurt like a mother f@#$@%."
edit to add: I AM getting the drugs.

Re: YOU in labor
I laugh at really bad pain...no literally...used to scare my chiropractor. And DH will probably be cracking jokes...so I may be laughing the whole time.
Although watch me not have that reaction this time now that I've said that. I'll be the crying, moaning one.

Re: YOU in labor
I think I will be serious. Usually, I like to joke around and over dramatize everything, but I am going into labor and childbirth with my game face on!

Re: YOU in labor
I was only in labor for a short while ( I was scheduled for a c-section and my DD decided to put me in labor a few hours before I had to report to the hospital )
I was cursing like a truck driver and punching the walls (In between being paralyzed from the pain )
Not sure how I would have been going the distance...

Re: YOU in labor
I was exactly what I thought i'd be! I'm not a screamer or moaner at all, I have a pretty high threshold for pain. Even though i had an epidural, it wore off (conveniently) as I was getting ready to push. HOLY PAIN! But I tried to keep quiet, I pushed for an hour. I know most girls poop while pushing so i actually stopped at one point and said to the OB "sorry if i'm crapping in your face" Then the girl across the hall was SCREAMING. like full out hysterics. So while i was pushing I screamed out "someone help that poor girl! give her drugs!!!" lol then the nurses proceeded to tell me she didnt want drugs. To which i replied "oh then screw her, she's crazy"
While i was laboring at home and at the hospital before the epi, I would just stop talking and concentrate on the contractions. DH thought he was helping by talking me through it. I don't think i ever said "Shut the f*ck up" to someone more times in my life!

I could totally see myself doing all of the above!!! Seriously, I don't know if it's because I have no idea what the hell I got myself into or what but this thread makes me laugh. I know there will be a lot of f bombs coming from my mouth and I'm not normally such a potty mouth.

This cracked me up because when I was in labor, right before I got the epi, my DH and dad went to get something to eat and my sister was in the room with me. She kept showing me all these cute little games and things on her Ipad. And like you, everytime I had a contraction I'd stop talking.....but she kept talking!.......I wanted to tell her to STFU many times, but I didnt want to be mean

DH keeps asking me 'if I am gonna be like those girls on the show (one born every min).'
I dont think i will scream, but I picture myself cursing. Using really awful, choice words. ALOT.

Re: YOU in labor
My labor was relatively short and I didn't scream or cry. I really tried to stay calm during contractions. Once I had the epi I didn't feel a thing.

Re: YOU in labor
I think I reacted as I expected I would....In the beginning I was very patient and focused and by the end I was yelling at everyone that dared to speak to me.

Re: YOU in labor
I usu cry when I'm stressed, so I'm guessing there will be some of that. But, I'm also quite sarcastic a lot of the time. So, I'm guessing that I'll be a sarcastic pain in the butt for my hubby who cries between saying sarcastic things ("did the head pop out yet?"). Ohhhh, it should be interesting.

Re: YOU in labor
I was incredibly quiet. I didn't want any noise around me for some reason. DH--being the supportive and wonderful husband he is--kept saying in the beginning "you are doing amazingly," and at one point I held my hand in front of his mouth and just said "shhhhh." You never know what you'll be like until you're there!

Re: YOU in labor
I was just watching One Born Every Minute last night and DH was like please don't be a screamer I think I am going to have a lot of anxiety but I am not a screamer when i am in pain - I just have to keep thinking to remain calm and it will all be over with soon enough I am not sure about the drugs yet but I am not saying no as I have never done this before!

Re: YOU in labor
I think I was how I thought I'd be... In early labor, I cried. Not hysterical, make a scene crying, just quiet crying because I was SCARED and emotional. I remember my whole body trembling uncontrollably. During pushing, I was quiet... as far as I remember... I had an epidural, but they must have put it too high because my chest and arms felt numb but I could feel all the contractions after they broke my water. During pushing, I think I had a whiny, scared voice, but not all out crying or anything.
I assume I'll be the same way this time... but who knows!

Re: YOU in labor
I’m sure it will resemble a scene from the Exorcist and involve me screaming vulgar obscenities to anyone in a 20ft radius, especially DH!

Re: YOU in labor
Just realized I didnt answer the question. In the beginning I was pretty quiet, just trying to concentrate on the contractions as they came. My epi wore off just as I was ready to push which I was told would happen when you get to that point. During the pushing I was a moaner and groaner I pushed for an hour 1/2 and I was so exhausted and kept saying "I can't do this anymore" and "OMG"
