yonkers? opinions- hartsdale? westchester help!
I found a really cute house there- with craftsman details- and the price is unreal
but how is yonkers? I dated a guy who lived there years ago and I don't remember much-
I really need to take a class in lowee westchester
I find all these houses I like but I need a long island town to compare them too- this is so hard! I have no frame of reference!

my aunt lives in Yonkers.
There is a very nice part of Yonkers. Then there is a not so nice part. And its a fine line between them!
if you give me a street I can ask her.
eta: and she is selling her house, maybe its hers, lol

Technically, I live in Yonkers but it is Bronxville Post Office. Like someone else said there are really nice parts and some not so nice. I am sort of new to the are and I don't know it real well but if you give me the address too I can mapquest it and let you know.
Yonkers taxes are much cheaper which is a major plus but the schools are not so good.

If it is close to Bronxville then it's in the nice part. You want to stay away from the Getty Square area where the DMV is.

Love it.
I think Hartsdale is really nice. Are you concerned w/school districts? I've heard good & bad things about Hartsdale schools.
We bought in the Fleetwood section of Mt Vernon. Not a good SD however we decided to go for it and deal w/ that later.

I have about 10 years till I will have a kid in school- so while it's important to me- it's not #1
but they colors of that house match everything I own- I wouldn't have to do a thing- but add a pool to the backyard!

I think so too since it is off Hartsdale Ave.

I agree - your best bet is to talk with a realtor in westchester who is familiar with the areas that you want. Our realtor was invaluable - and we were looking in a town on LI which we thought we already knew a lot about.

my good friend lives in hartsdale...love the town, her husband commutes to nyc, and the train is right there...right next to scarsdale, so thats nice too...
hartsdale sd is small, but i too have heard mixed reviews, for whatever thats worth...

I live one town south of Croton, but I use the Croton train station to get into the city. The express takes about 45 minutes and it rides along the Hudson the entire way down. It is stunning to watch! Croton schools are great. Yonkers has mixed areas but be cautious of the school districts, my girlfriend lives there and is not so happy about them. Hope this helps!
