*yet another update* POAS before Beta?

My beta is on Saturday for my second IUI. Last time I was so much more devastated than I expected to be when I got the BFN. I've tried so hard to go into this whole process optimistically (although cautiously so,) but with this cycle I am definitely feeling really negative. The nurses at the dr's office said not to "cheat" & POAS because the results could be off from all the drugs, but I'm really tempted. Any opinions?

I did not POAS. Went to the store with DH & DD, had the box in the cart, but DH didn't think it was a good idea. I definitely regret listening to him. I wish I was more prepared and like one of you said (I think it was Flowerwife) I would much rather see the negative on the test than get it over the phone. Next time I will already have the HPTs in the house. Went for the blood test this morning. I woke up feeling negative and came up with a list of questions for the dr, who I have not seen nor spoke to since our second consult to go over all of our test results. I'm thinking it's time to move on to IVF and possible switch doctors. I'll give another update after the phone call with the results.

Update 2: BFP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG. Trying not to get too excited, but I am SOOOO excited!!!!!! Beta was 258.3. I have no idea if that means anything other than a BFP. I go Monday for Beta #2. I seriously can't believe this! I'm so glad I can tell you ladies since we won't tell anyone we know yet. I am bursting though. And I am the WORST secret keeper ever (only my own secrets.)

Update 3: My beta went up to 602.7. I'm going for an ultrsound on Friday. Let's hope we see something in there.

okay here is why i do it....

now it totallllllllllly suck when you get a bfn ....but you can still go for beta and get a pos.


now why i personally think its imp to test before beta is if you get a bfp.

when i got my bfp it was the day before my beta( uhh 4 bfp's). the morning of beta it was bfn. the beta came back very very low. which meant i had a chemical preg.

personally i was devastated and i have not had a bfp since.

BUT the reason i say its good to know is... if you are one of those who get repeated bfp when you poas...and then neg or chem pregs...... it might be helpful to the doc for giving more progesterone or looking into other things to sustain pregs


just my 2 cents....but i hope its a totally big fat bfp for you!

I was always tempted to but I never did. I actually never made it to a beta for the iui's but for my ivf's I didn't even want them to call me. I had them call DH.

every single one of my cycles I POAS before the beta. i dont know yet if ill do it for this IVF cycle, but i probably will. all except one cycle i waited til 12DPO to test and each time the HPT was accurate (with the exception of one chemical PG cause the beta was SO low).

are you on progesterone? if you aren't you can always wait for AF and then test/beta if she doesn't show. if you are then progesterone might keep AF away so you don't have the option of waiting it out.

if you did ovidrel trigger i wouldnt worry about false +s from the trigger unless you are testing before AT LEAST 10DPO (which you shouldn't do anyway). i think the office just tells people that to dissuade them from testing early, cause you CAN get a BFN on an HPT and then a normal + beta. its rare but it happens since HPTs are only so sensitive and not 100% foolproof.

i say do what your heart says. if you really dont want to see a BFN, wait for the beta. if you really just want to be prepared for the phone call, then do it.

I POAS the day before and the day of beta, and got negatives on the stick BUT my beta came back at a 12, which means i had a chemical. I had four IUI's that i never went for a beta for, because i tested and got negatives and got my period shortly after,now i wish i had b\c maybe they were chemicals too. I will never know. Which would change not only my dx, but the meds, and after care etc. If you decide to POAS, (no one can change your mind either way) JUST please no matter what the outcome, GO for your BETA anyway. It can be a very important part of the puzzle.

I always test around 10dpo (that's when I got my BFP last time) ....... This time around I'll see how long I can hold out for.

There's really not much more I can think to say other than that I agree fully with flowerwife and maybemommy10

Thanks ladies. I had convinced myself not to test, but now you're changing my mind. at this point I would test tomorrow morning & I'd get the beta results by 3:00 the same day, so I'm not sure what I'll do. I am on progesterone (crinone) which I HATE BTW. My levels were tested last week and all looked good there. I have it my mind that I'll get a BFN and am already thinking of my next step (possibly move on to IVF.) Just to add more pressure to this whole process, my insurance which covers everything ( ) is ending December 1. I turn 40 soon after that. That stupid ticking clock is stressing me out. And I have a million other things stressing me out more than usual lately. Yay!! Anyway, back to Beta Day tomorrow. Last time I anxiously awaited the results by checking my doctor's online patient portal every 15 minutes around the time they usually call and kept checking my phone constantly. This time I'm really going to try to keep super busy -- away from the computer.

Thank you for all the advice & well wishes. It really helps to chat with you all on here, especially since I only have DH to talk to about it in "real life." He just doesn't quite understand.

I tested my first cycle that failed. I am glad I did though. I did want to get the call from the Dr. and he tell me BFN. I wanted to get it in private with me and DH and when the Dr. called I prepared myself for the no.

The 2nd one was a sucess but I tested 10DPO and 12DPO and nothing. I got the line on 14DPO the day of the beta. Then I felt that the test that day confirmed my YES!

It is a personal preference. I like that I prepared myself for the dr. Totally up to you. Do what is comfortable for you..everyone takes news (good or bad) differently

I POAS before my beta because I can handle the BFN on the HPT a lot better than I can handle the nurse calling me all sad for me. If I didn't POAS I'd probably burst into tears when they call me. Like Penny, I usually POAS around 10dpo and then 12dpo...and then maybe 13dpo too. I don't POAS the day of the beta for some reason.

I know I haven't been on this board very long (I lurked for a very long time before I started posting), but you ladies are seriously the BEST. Of course I made the mistake of googling what my high beta could mean and now I'm worried about a molar preg. I was already worried enough. I'll try not to think about it and see what the results are on Monday. I don't think I'll "relax" until after the 12 week mark.

I too had a high first beta 291! I was worried as well but when I researched it it seemed that if it was molar it would be extremely higher than that. My second was 770! My Dr seems to think that i may very well be having twins! How many follicles did you have?? Maybe yours is twins too! Hopefully I will find out on Monday if the fluid from my OHSS has decreased enough for them to see anything else on the sono! Congrats and best of luck! Just stay calm and enjoy your happy news!
