Do you think it would be easier to rent a car seat from a rental car company, or bring your own (but, have to carry it through the airport to gate check it)? I could buy my own for $25 less than the rental company is charging, if that makes a difference. TIA!

We always brought our own and then had the baby sit it on the plane as well. 9x out of 10 we were able to get a free seat when they were under 2, if not we just checked the seat at the gate.

Re: WWYD? traveling & car seat

We brought ours, but since we did not buy a seat for DS on the plane we checked the seat with our luggage. We got a nice padded bag for it and had no issues.

I rented. I do not want to lug a Car seat through the airport or pay to check it. The one we got from the rental place was clean and looked brand new. By the timeyou check it and pay for the car seat as a checked bag both ways it is cheaper to rent it.

You don't pay to check baby gear. We have always brought our own.

Re: WWYD? traveling & car seat

we brought ours- it went on as oversized luggage and jetblue let us check it right where we checked our suitcase... We purchased a car seat cover which was awesome because it was larger than the seat, so I totally stuffed extra items in there

WWYD? traveling & car seat

The two times we have flown with DD she was under 2 so we did not buy an airline seat for her. The first time she was still in the infant carrier so I brought the carrier, base and snap & go. The second time she was in the convertible and I rented it from the car company.

This next time we are flying she will be over 2 and I had to purchase a seat on the plane. Since that was the case I plan on bringing her car seat so she can sit in it on the plane. I will feel more comfortable with her in that seat on the plane and I think she will too.

Me too!

Plus AAA gives us the car seat rental for free. Chat Icon But it was like $8 or something in all. They don't install it, which was fine. But it worked great. It was clean and easy to get and return. This was when we went to NY for a week.

I have NEVER EVER lug that beast with us into the airport through security, up to the gate (if needed) seen parents with that monster waiting with them at the gate and i think "how much trouble is that when we land?" nope.. don't regret never doing it.

Since AJ didnt fly until AFTER two we always had her own seat. We never buy anything for that either. She sits with a strap, end of story.

We have flown a few times since then. Hawaii, Dallas, NY, Orlando, Omaha, and going back to Orlando this year. It works very well for us to rent. Its less stress.

We bring our own. I check it with baggage - you don't have to pay to check it.

I have a friend who bought a Cosco Scenera for travel (since it's inexpensive and lightweight and she travels often). It's easier to lug through the airport if you would like to use it on the plane.

Re: WWYD? traveling & car seat

We always bring our own and use it on the plane, we always buy DS a seat though. You could just check it.

ETA: I know DS is comfortable in our car seat and we know how to install it correctly so I would just feel more comfortable with our own seat vs buying one. WE have a backpack type bag for the car seat. DH says it makes it easier to carry.

If I'm bringing it ON the plane, I bring the seat. If I was going to check it, I'd rent it.
Your seat can get beat up under the plane and tossed around which can be equal to the seat being in an accident.

You do not pay to check it and it does not count as baggage in your allowed baggage count. We just took two on Jet Blue. They were collected at the curb, so we did not lug it at all, and each one was placed in a big bin that they stayed in until they were put in the over-sized luggage area at our destination airport. It was ZERO hassle.

Re: WWYD? traveling & car seat

I've done both but I prefer to take one because DS always sat great in it on the plane. Without it he wanted to get down a lot more. Plus the ones you rent are Chat Icon. If you do decide to rent make sure to cover it with towels

ITA, the 2 times we rented the seats were disgusting, I had to fight to get better/cleaner seats which still.weren't great. We bring ours now.

I rented it from car company and so glad I did. It was so easy. Everything was clean and I didnt have to lug a car seat around the airport.

I would never rent or use the seat a car service provides. On our last trip, the car service said they provided seats but I still brought my own. When we got there the car service had the seat already in the car. The seat was old and disgusting. Turns out it was expired, when I told this to the driver, he had no clue car seats expired. Thankfully, I had my own seat for DS but I wonder how many people put their child in an old seat.

Re: WWYD? traveling & car seat

we are using one through the car rental. With 2 kids and all the stuff we have to bring, it's 1 less thing to lug around.
