WWYD? Exposure to Bronchitis while pregnant?

I'm so upset-I know things can be worse...but I have a trip planned out of state this week to visit my sister and her two kids. She told me on Saturday she took her 5 year to the doctor for a bad cough and some other alignments and it's turns out she came down with Bronchitis the peditrican said she was not viral or contagious; didn't need antibiotics but just gave her some liquid medicine. He even cleared her for school this week. But now my sister e-mails and tells me her husbands had a cough and she told him to go to the doctor too since they knew I was coming...He also has bronchitis but they put him on antibiotics (does that mean his is contagious)?

She asked her peditrican and he said that it would be ok for me to be around them; but to take the precauctions of being around someone with a cold and check with my OB. My OB said the same thing. That it was ok; just to also take the precauctions of being around someone with a cold. Washing my hands often; not touching eyes/face etc; and no kissing or hugging my niece :(

I'm 28 weeks pregnant. I know my OB and their 2 doctors said it would be ok; but WWYD? Would you still go and just take the precauctions to prevent possibly getting sick? I guess if I had a child of my own and they had bronchitis I woudln't leave and not be around them; but should I put myself in a situation that may lead to possible exposure? My sister is going to her doctor today to check and see if she has it. I have to fly to where she lives so i have to decide if I want to cancel/change my flights (I leave Wednesday). So it's not like I'm just driving and could postpone my trip so easily.

sorry it's so long! Thanks!!

That's a tough one but I'd probably go and take extra precautions if the doctors are saying it's ok.
This is coming from someone whose had bronchitis twice this pregnancy and is now asthmatic. And when my cousin had her baby, I skipped visiting her in the hospital because I was like typhoid Mary.

Personally I would go! I would also hug my niece, there is no way I would not be playing with her as usual! But that's just me! I don't see my family very often so I would take the time to see them and visit! The antibiotic will make him noncontagious in 24 hours and as long as your sis doesn't get it you should be fine!

THANKS!! I'm leading towards going too! My neice will be finished with her medicine on Wednesday; and I arrive Wednesday night. It's reassuring that my BIL would not be contagious after 24 hours on the antibiotics!

I just didn't want to put myself or my baby in a situation that could make us sick and have limited medince/treatment available to us during the pregnancy. I haven't seen them since June so this was a very anticipated trip!

I wouldn't go but that's just me. I'm very paranoid with being around sick people while pregnant. A couple weeks ago my nieces and nephews had colds and coughs, so I canceled plans for them to come over till the week after. My sister understood

I got a very bad sinus infection after someone at work got pneumonia, they can defnitely treat with antibiotics. (not saying dont be concerned, I would just take extra precautions, lots of hand washing etc) they wont be contagious after already being on antibiotics for a bit. I say go and have fun Chat Icon

Go! If her husband is on antibiotics already, he's no longer contagious (after 24 hours of being on the meds). I'm sure your neice will be much better by Wednesday, too. Just don't share any drinks with them, remember to wash your hands often, etc. Have fun!

I'd go. Unfortunately if I stayed away everything a friend or family member was sick I'd never see anyone.
