WWYD Diagnostic testing?
I had a chemical last month. Dr. B said it doesn't necessarily mean anything b/c chemicals are pretty common. I have endo so it could be an issue. He said to see what happens next month and if it's another chemical then go for testing. The monitoring panel is $450 out of pocket.
Of course, I googled and found lots of info on how endo could play a part in chemicals.
This month doesn't look promising b/c the early follie (or whatever it is) and I couldnt continue with meds.
Do I wait to see what happens this month and next? Or get the workup done so we know if there is an issue going into the next cycle?
Does anyone know how long it takes to get the results back? Will it even be back by the 2nd week of April? I just don't want to keep wasting time.

Re: WWYD Diagnostic testing?
Are you referring to the immune panel? It took 2wks for my results to come back, although they said it would take 3-4wks so I was pleasantly surprised. Also, it was $800 COVERED! However.. if not for that test, we wouldn't know about the clotting issues I have and therefore wouldn't be able to treat it!

Re: WWYD Diagnostic testing?
They called it a monitoring panel. When I took the codes to ask my ins co, it was RIP, NK, CBC and a few others. It's normally $2100, but they have a max fee of $450. He originaly said it was $800, but maybe he was thinking of the other one or the 2 together are $800?
I'm reading all these things where the endo messes with hormones and tells your body to continue to get AF right after implantation so that's obviously a chemical. Of course it doesn't mean this happened, but it's in the back of my mind.
Did they do the bloodwork in the office?

Re: WWYD Diagnostic testing?
They were able to do the blood work in the office on a Tuesday and it was a special lady who did it... not the normal Linda/Judy... It was fine though. It was A LOT of blood (for my test anyway) but the woman who did it was really good. It was painless for allllllllllllllll the vials (I counted 20 something).
I personally think the testing is impt because if you know what's wrong, you could make a plan to overcome it!

Re: WWYD Diagnostic testing?
Yeah, you are right. $450 is a lot of $$, but it would have totally been worth it to not have another chemical. What I don't get though is that patients of other Drs just went and had it done all covered. Why do we have to use a specific lab? If I could have quest do it, it would be covered.

Re: WWYD Diagnostic testing?
What is the name of the test? I work for Quest. A lot of times the docs just like to use certain labs. Doesn't mean Quest doesn't offer it,just means they don't use us. This is the part of medicine that isn't right. Some clinics only use genzyme for genetics testing and just refuse to use anyone else even though it may be covered and cheaper thru Quest. Trust me, I fight with docs all the time when it comes to that as I refuse to pay out of pocket for something that is covered were they to use another lab.

They use Reprosource. The Drs office called it a monitoring panel. Some of the codes were RIP, NK, CBC and then there were about 10 different CPT codes under that.
My ins said some might be totally covered depending on the diagnosis code. I'm not sure what that code would be, but I did have a chemical last month which is why the Dr. mentioned this test.
The reason I have to pay is b/c this lab is out of network. And I haven't even met my out of network deductable so my ins. wont be paying the 80%.

Re: WWYD Diagnostic testing?
That stinks, lab testing is expensive. Most of what u listed are basic tests. Sounds like a panel the lab created. Wonder if doc could write u a script for them and just list individual tests and then u can take to quest. I hate having to shell out for stuff like that jut bc the doc favors one over the other. But,it's quite possible they may be the only one to perform specific tests, highly doubt it as we do most everything but possible.

Thanks! I'm going to call the Dr. on Mon. and see what they say. I see no reason to pay for something that's covered 100% by my insurance.

Re: WWYD Diagnostic testing?
the $450 reprosource panel is the immune panel - it's dr. Bs custom panel so i dont think they do it anywhere else. if i were you i would DEF get it now. i didnt do it at the beginning and ended up having two chemicals before getting the results and treating them. with treatment i was able to get and stay pregnant, and im now 25w. def do it - IMO its not worth another chemical or early m/c.

Re: WWYD Diagnostic testing?
I'm kinda leaning towards having it done. Reprosource gave me the CPT codes, so I guess I need to see if quest does them and if my ins coveres them.

What insurance do you have, if you dont have IF coverage they may cover it under an autoimmune code... ask Linda

Re: WWYD Diagnostic testing?
endo can definitely affect your immune system, especially if you have stage 1 or 2. considering you had 1 chemical already and know you have endo, i would pay the $ and get the workup done. it could be just what you need to get the next one to stick!

I have aetna and IF coverage so it's most likely covered if I go to a participating lab. (like Quest). Reprosource is out of network so I'd pay the max of $450. I'm pretty much set on having it done to be sure, but now I just need to find out if Quest does these same tests. It's stupid for me to pay $450 if Quest can do the same tests for no cost to me. Maybe they use Reprosource b/c they are the only ones who can do it, but I have to check.

I actually don't even know what stage I had. I never asked. I was reading that if there is a blockage (which I had) that it can mean it was an advanced stage.
The Dr. said that is does raise a flag if you have a chemical and endo or pcos but doesn't necessarily mean the endo caused the chemical. He said I could definitley wait to see if I have another, but at that point, its 2 months of wasted time and stress and let-down. Plus, I'm still withing the good window after the lap where my chances are better.
Thanks ladies I'm going to have the test whether its $450 through Reprosource or $0 through Quest.

NO quest doesnt do it, you have to use reprosource...The lab is in Ma. so it may be covered...

But Aetna told me that they pay 80% only after I have met my $750 out of network deductable (which I havent).
I don't know what you mean by it may be covered b/c they are in ma.?

Re: WWYD Diagnostic testing?
was endo the cause for the blockage? i only ask because i was diagnosed with a blockage and stage 1 endo. they don't think the blockage was related to the endo. if it was, then yes you are most likely dealing with a higher stage endo.
i found a pretty good book on endo - don't laugh but it's endometriosis for dummies. it gives a pretty thorough overview of it. it's hard to find any books on it.
good luck with the testing!

Re: WWYD Diagnostic testing?
Dr. B wrote me a specific script for the testing.. I went to Quest with it.. they took 36 vials of blood and I'm happy that we did it because they were able to find out about my clotting issues

Not sure. They removed 2 endo polyps and unblocked the tube and removed the endo. I should probably call the office and ask what stage just so I know. I didn't bring any prior info to Dr. B and he didn't ask what stage or anything.
I need to order that book! It's such a mysterious disease. Not much is known about it and there is no cure. The strange thing is that I have no symptoms of endo. I had mid cycle spotting before the lap, but that was it- no cramps really at all.

Re: WWYD Diagnostic testing?
I was in the lab today and if he writes u an individual script we can do it. I looked it up. 36 vials of blood is insane!? Wow,I hope we don't have to take that much but I think u can send to Quest. We are the leader in testing, not much we don't do.

i know, very frustrating! glad to hear you have no symptoms. me neither. never would have suspected it if they didn't do the lap.

I have endo too, lost a tube and my current one is nothing great. I had lap surgery and 2 months later got pregnant with cLomid iui and have a DD who is now 2. Second pregnancy I lost too. End of first trimester. It wasn't right from beginning. I just knew. Weird how endo works. Now im doing ivf. I have stage 3. I want a second but it was harder trying for the first and am blessed to have DD.
