Re: WWYD? Babysitter fee related
A deal is a deal. She may not have come for $50. She came because it was $100. So she was lied to/misled.
I WOULD make wave because it's unfair to HER.
Too easy too hush hush and act like nothing happened.

Re: WWYD? Babysitter fee related
Actually $10 per hour PER child comes to $30 per hour so either way he owes her money.
6 - 11:30 = 5.5 hrs = $165
6 - 1:30 = 7.5 hrs = $225
He's a scumbag.

Re: WWYD? Babysitter fee related
If this adult was so capable then she should have driven her home.
I would go kick them in the shins. A deal is a deal. They broke the contract. What makes this different than if he hired anyone to do any job.
Where's Judge Judy when you need her?!

Thank you all for reading and responding.
I am ****hoping**** to run into him this weekend. I am not keeping peace on this. It is unfair.
He did this because he is counting on no one calling him out on it. Seriously? He was getting a ridiculous bargain at $100 and he goes and intentionally shorts her?
Please, please, please call him out on this and force him to do the right thing. At the very least everyone will know what a d-bag he is and maybe he will think twice before trying this stunt again.

Re: WWYD? Babysitter fee related
Definately owes $50.
Here is what they say:
If he had hired a babysitter that drove THEN the lady coming home at 11:30 could have said - "I'm home, you go" - OR If two of them came home at 11:30 one of them could have driven her home.
The fact that she was their til the morning makes it an overnight. It doesn't matter that one adult came home -"mothers helpers" are ones that watch the child while a parent is home.
ETA- $10 an hour for 3 kids is cheap. Usually you see that for one kid(which is why I havent realy used a babysitter outside of grandparents) - more like $15 an hour for 3 kids.

Re: WWYD? Babysitter fee related
That would infuriated me if it was my kid! I would call if they were avoiding my DD calls and then would stop over with my DD!
An agreement is an agreement! She planned her time to be there! It's no different than any other service that requires reserving time!
I would also make it clear to the family you will be spreading the word about what they pulled!

Re: WWYD? Babysitter fee related
i didnt read pp but imo they already rocked the boat by not giving her the correct amount. that is horrible. if that was the case at 1130 she could have been picked up and slept in her own bed. I dont think she should go back and do it again. first I think she is too young to be taking on an overnight job.

Re: WWYD? Babysitter fee related
I would say she is owed the $50.....
if she had been sent home at 1130 b/c the other adult came home, then that would be one thing....but if she had to stay for the full time, then she is owed the originally discussed amount.
However, it is a close family friend, and she is definitely no longer babysitting for them, then I would probably chalk it up to a loss, lesson learned that this person can't be trusted for his word and move on....sucks, but

Re: WWYD? Babysitter fee related
I'm just a little confused by ur op sounded like ur sis never discussed the rate with the dad but rather just heard from the cousin what SHE was getting paid. Is she older? Maybe he thought that makes it acceptable to pay only $50? Or maybe when the cousin said she gets $100 for overnight she meant overnight ALONE in the house not with the dad back by 1:30?
I might be the minority here but if payment was NOT discussed and your sis just assumed she would get the same rate and that it was the same circumstance as the cousin who gets $100- idk I think $50 is adequate.
I can't really see paying a 13 year old more than that but tbh I can't imagine leaving a 13 year old with my three children either...

Re: WWYD? Babysitter fee related
To the PP: The fee was discussed in a group that it was $100 including the cousin, my sis and the parent. And to DADD: it was $10 for all 3 kids p/hr not each child. MeAndBobs: you got a point
I appreciate everyones opinions. I wanted to see what people no included in the situation would think about it.
My sister is NOT babysitting anymore for them. That was her decision along with my mom.
Again THANKS for everyone's opinions!

Re: WWYD? Babysitter fee related
Am less shocked about the cash, I was hung up on the fact that someone would trust a 13yo to do this at all.
I get it that he was in a bind, but the 13 yo as a solution??? Girl, I would go back to the drawing board.
Maybe I'm old fashioned or just old - but 13 seems way to young for an overnight babysit of 3 kids.

The guy sounds like a douche...ripping off a kid? That's a HUGE responibility to expect of a 13 year old (watching 3 kids overnight). I would rip him a new one if I came across him.
Absolutely ! It sounds like he is trying to exploit her because she is young. She needs to be paid the additional $50 towards the $100 balance.

Re: WWYD? Babysitter fee related
The balance is owed to her. If the parent did want to pay her the full amount he should have arranged for someone to pick up or drop off your sister at 11:30 then.
