Would you still buy the car?
My dh and I need a bigger car due to baby #3 coming. We liked the Traverse but wanted to wait for the 2018s because the body style is changing and they made some changes to the interior as well. There are very few out there still but we found one that I really like. It had an additional add on trim that we have not seen on any of the others yet. We decide to buy. We go to finalize everything today. We are literally 1 paper away from finalizing with the finace guy when the saleman and the manager goes wait we need you to see the car first. There is a dent in the back like someone backed into something and a little chip on the edge of where the back of the car and the lift gate meet. They said that the dent most likely can be fixed by just heating and popping it out. However, the chip will need to be fixed by painting. They said they will call us after it is done and if we still want it we can purchase it. If not - they apologize. They checked if there was another one they could find for us but he said in a 300 mile radius he cant find one.
I am so unsure if I want a brand new truck that I know has had a dent in it and fixed already. I know they will fix it and if we dont buy it someone else will. I read that these type of dents and scratches happen often on dealerships because of how close the cars are, maneuvering around, etc.
Would you still buy the truck if the car is fixed perfectly?

I'm getting a 2018 traverse as well. Not sure where you got yours, you can fm me, but a lot of dealers have them in. Robert, Atlantic, eagle, riverhead, Huntington. I've been to all of them.
Which trim were you looking at?

Re: Would you still buy the car?
All depends upon the mileage on the car, was it used for test drives, and how much they will take off the price.

Re: Would you still buy the car?
There was only 16 miles on it. They said it literally got on the lot days before we saw it. I dont think they are going to take money off because if they can fix it and no one be the wiser they will be able to sell the truck no problem.

My current car had a dent. It was from moving the cars around the lot. They fixed it and you can't tell

Re: Would you still buy the car?
I would probably still take it as long as they fixed it to be undetectable but I would also probably use it as a negotiating tool to get some money off the price

I wouldn't unless they heavily discounted the car. No matter if they fix it to look new, it was still basically in an accident.

DH just ran back in and said hang on, until the car is titled, it isn't reported as being in an accident. He said try for a discount, but if not, still take the car. It's not considered a collector car, and it won't diminish in resale value. It was nice of he dealer to even say something in the first place instead of trying to get it done under your nose.

Re: Would you still buy the car?
Happened to my $$$ truck. They were bringing it out to me and the guy scraped the bumper somehow. I took it…it wasn't that noticeable. I never fixed it in the 10 years i had it. We had already paid. They did offer to fix it but we just never had the time to be bothered.

Yes I would. I like that they were honest. Same thing happened with mine but the dealer didn't say anything. I went out to drive it off the lot and noticed it so they fixed it but I'm sure they wouldn't have said anything if I didn't notice. Also I must say I just looked up the 2018 traverse and I love it! I hated the old body style.

Not unless they gave me a few grand Off. Any car that has body work (paint) the dealers always want to take money off on trade in.

Of course it was nice, but to sell a car at the sticker price (or whatever price they initially agreed on), then it gets in an accident, they fix it, and to still sell it as a new car at the same price? No way. I don't care if it's a collector car or not, has been titled or not, etc.. I'm surprised how many don't care. If I'm paying $$$$ for a brand new car, I want one that hasn't been in an accident.

From what I read online this is more common than I thought. Most times though you dont even know because they fix it before you see it. Example- if i dont get thr car...the next person wont know they had to fix anything anf im sure they will not be told

This happens so often you have no idea. We get cars with small damage like that all the time. We send them out and have them fixed and everything is fine. I wouldn't sweat it. Its not uncommon and if they are willing to fix it go for it. I've worked for dealers where they wouldn't even tell you. They would set up a night time delivery so that you wouldn't see it either. Sounds like you're at a good store

Most likely it wasnt in an accident. It was probably damage from transportation. It happens all the time.

And if I went to turn in a lease with "damage from transportation" (as in me transporting it from my driveway to the dealer) or try to trade in my car that had some "damage from transportation" they would penalize me for it. So I'll take the car, but they better knock something off the price for it- or bye! Next!
