Would you share bonus news with a sibling?
Background.
I work for a really small company so huge bonuses are not a given.For the past two months I have been really, really busy and have joked with my sister about not feeling guilty when I get this year's bonus and she agreed.
Fast forward to today and I emailed her telling her that I got a huge bonus
( huge for me ) and payrise and that all my hard work was worth it. What does she do - forwards my email to her husband saying that you would think that I was too old to be sharing this type of information and how silly I was to be telling her She forwarded it to me by accident.
I am really hurt as its not like I took out an ad in the local newspaper..I just told her.
Do you share this type of info with a sibling?
I understand if I worked for corporate america and we were talking about bonuses in large figures but I am talking a few grand here.

You worked hard for that bonus, dont let your sister ruin it for you. I dont see anything wrong with sharing the news with sibling, you were happy and wanted to share. Im very Happy for you!!

my sisters and i talk about this stuff sometimes - we don't really share specific numbers, but we all share when we get raises and promotions and stuff.
did you tell her exactly how much you got? maybe she thought that was tacky?

sounds like she might be a little jealous. i would let her know that you got fwd'd the email she sent to her husband---and just tell her that obviously you didn't realize that your happy news is petty to her--so from now on you'll keep your mouth shut and omit her from hearing about it.

Thanks Ladies...I thought she may be just jealous too but you would think she would be happy for me considering I am happy for every little thing she does.
I guess I have found the grinch this xmas.

My friend does EXTREMELY well for herself. I am nothing but thrilled when she shares that she got a huge bonus. She works hard & deserves it - as I'm sure you did too.
Very mean.

I share everything with my sister, including bonuse and pay increases and we have VERY different circumstances. We are always happy for each other... I am sorry that your sister made you feel this way. Definately sounds like she is jealous.

Thanks SO much everyone. I am beginning to feel better as I no longer think that I was wrong for sharing this news with her. I do think going forward from here that I will share a lot less with her.
I hate having to do this as our relationship has always been open. I am actually questioning other things I shared with her now and wonder if she was laughing about them behind my back with her husband. I guess I will never know.
Its got me wondering if you could hear what people say or write about you behind your back would it be so much diffrent than what you assumed they thought about you.
Anyhoo I guess I will just sock it to her and go and spend my bonus

I tell my sister financial stuff....specific numbers often times too. We are always happy for each other.
That was a very immature thing for your sister to do. She should have just said congrats and let it go.

Sounds to me she is jealous and just venting in another manner to her DH. Unless she felt you were bragging and not simply sharing?
Either way, I don't see anything wrong w/ sharing that w/ your sis. sorry your feelings got hurt but there is more to this than meets the eye I believe.

Sounds like she's just jealous and was completely rude for questioning you sharing this info with her. If you were honestly telling her b/c you wanted to share your excitement with her, then that's just mean of her - but maybe she thought you were bragging?
