Would you say something (pumping at work) UPDATE!

So we have a room for pumping in my office. It is on a separate floor from where the offices are (near the mail room, training room, etc.) and it has a sign on the room that says "Nursing Room." It is a small room with no windows, a couch and a small fridge.

This week (my 4th week back at work) I have gone to use the room and someone was in it twice. I am the only one currently pumping in my office.

The first time was a girl who said she wasn't feeling well and went to lay down in there. When I told her I needed the room to pump she didn't want to leave but eventually gave in and left.

Yesterday I went and knocked on the door and there was no answer. I knocked again and finally a man came out and didn't say anything - just walked away.

Do you think I should say something to the person in charge of the office? I don't want to be a pain, but I am kind of grossed out by a man (or anyone) going in there to lay down. I leave all my stuff out since I am the only one using the room for pumping and don't want anyone near it!

UPDATE: So, the person I needed to talk to was back today and her response was that even though it is a nursing room it is open to anyone who wants to use it so there is nothing she will do! She says anyone can use it to lay down or make a phone call. Told you they would say "who cares!"

Ok, thanks everyone. I was telling a few of my coworkers and they were like "who cares?" so I didn't know if I was crazy!

Absolutely say something - that woman should not be at work if she is that sick, never mind spreading her germs around a room where woman pump. That man has absolutely no reason to be there. It is a room for pumping, not hanging out. Definitely say something.

YES say something! I could have written this post myself!! I just went through this earlie rin the week. My room is also on another floor (2 floors up) I've been back to work & pumping 3x a day for the last 5 months. It's not often but on occasion I would go to the room (also with a sign that says "DO NOT ENTER...NURSING MOTHERS ROOM" and found people in the room with the door closed talking on their cell phones! Just this week twice I went and people were holding meetings in there! I complained to my office manager and she spoke with the HR coordinator for that floor. They know that I said something (I'm the only one currently using the room) but it was annoying to have to fit the time to pump into my day and take the elevator up then find it occuped and wait. And it's a little akward too...I don't know why; but it just seems a little uncomfortable to me to knock standing there waiting so I can pump milk out my boobs. When I told the manager she was mad that they were using the room. She said my need for it supercedes their need to make a private phone call. That's not what the room is for. So YES I would say something.

i would say something but i would stop leaving everythign out. I would pack it all away. you never who will go in there and that thought alone would always make me put everything away

Does the door have a lock on it? I would ask for a key. No reason for anyone else to be in there.

Thanks everyone. I will say something, but everyone is out this week! I also fear that they will say "who cares" too since none of the people I can say something too were ever nursing mothers!

To answer a few questions:

I don't really leave everything out out, but I leave my bag on the couch with the pump and pump bra in it and leave the bag open. I also leave my extra bottles on top of the little fridge, but can put those away in the bag and close everything up.

The lock doesn't have a key - it is the kind that says vacant or in use on the outside when it is turned.

Absolutely say something! Maybe they can replace the lock with a regular lock? My company recently in the past 2 years put a lactation room in. There is a lock on the door and you have to get the key before you want to go in and pump. That room is for nursing mothers only and that's it.
