No, but I've made phone calls for people who were stranded.

One time during the holidays my sister and I saw the man that I SWEAR looked like Santa Claus.

OMMG...I saw Santa Claus this weekend...ask TARA!

Re: Would you pick up a hitchhiker?

never. I live out on the north fork and a lot of people tend to come out here w/o a car to summer (even when I was younger)..... even then my dad would never let me pick someone up (right when I got my license).
If he ever picked someone up he'd let them stay in the back of the truck, but never in the cab w/ us... but I never have, and never would- though I have to admit, I always feel bad when I see people hitchhiking- especially in the summer when it's really hot- or when it's really cold in the winter.

Re: Would you pick up a hitchhiker?

I would never pick up anyone. I may offer my phone, but that's it.

Although, I believe in pay it forward. I was desperate for a quarter for a meter and asked a man for change of a dollar. He told me to keep my dollar but made me promise to pay it forward. When we were in New Orleans someone asked for change of a dollar for the bus and instead I gave them 50 cents and made them promise to pay it forward. Chat Icon

Noooooooooooo!

If I thought it really looked like they needed help, I would call the cops and tell them where to find the person.

Re: Would you pick up a hitchhiker?

My first reaction is NO WAY....but I mean, if I saw a teenage girl shivering on the side of the road...I might pull over to see what's up...but I would have my cell phone in my hand.

Re: Would you pick up a hitchhiker?

Not necessarily a hitchhiker, but one guy that lives in my neighborhood works at the gas station up the road. It was a rainy/snowy freezing cold day and I offered to pick him up and drive him to work. It was on my way anyway and I felt it was a nice thing to do Chat Icon

Re: Would you pick up a hitchhiker?

i'd probably be too worried to do so but a lot of times i see things like that and feel so bad... but you hear so many horror stories that it makes you so scared. years ago it was quite normal - especially for men in the service. my father told me about how him and his two buddies (all in the navy and in their sailor uniforms) hitched rides all the way from, i THINK, the carolina's -- around that area! that's really far! and they came home for a long weekend to LI (for my dad) so they could see their girlfriends (my dad to see my mom) - the two other guys (his friends) lived in the maryland area. pretty amazing but times were very different then and this was quite common for men in the service - army, navy, etc.
